The three things that have led to the downfall of America are:

1. The inevitable life cycle of democracies.

That would be numbers 2 and 3 as well.




As an aside, when did the downfall occur and what has fallen?

We got invaded and had our capitol burned in 1814, the country was split apart in 1861, we got our butts almost kicked entirely out of the Pacific in early 1942 but the country recovered from those.

We've had several huge depressions with around 33% unemployment in the last one but recovered from those - 20 years after the last big one we were the dominant economic power on the planet.

We've seen cultural changes galore - invasions by Hybernian hordes of Papists defiling our Protestant country, the Yellow Peril spreading in the West, freed former slaves spreading North, Italians invading what were formerly the digs of the Hybernian hordes, and now huge influxes of folk from south of the border.

But "The United States of America" is still here. Not the United States of America it was 50 years ago but that can be said every 50 years of our history.

Maybe an alternate question would be "how will we know exactly when the lights have been turned out for good?"

1. The inability to perform basic math.
2. When the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor.
3. Pineapple on pizza.

Good points, Jim. In studying the Revolutionary War during the 1770's, we find America split into three equal in size, but diverse groups of Colonists.

Loyalists - They were loyal to King George and England.

Pacifists - This group of people were fine with the Status-quo.

Patriots - They opposed tyranny, increased taxes, government abuse and loss of liberty.

I think you're definitely on to something there...

But its a ()*& shame we are now expected to have to outbreed the trash out there, thats one MORE bill we would have to foot, instead of being responsible and having what we can afford.

And this one might be the real winner. Though at this time of year, I'm kinda partial to AC. But I'd probably trade it to step back in time a bit.

Hey Jeff! Just sayin'. It's all about what's "easy"!!! Easy everything. Disposable society. Throw it away we'll buy a new one. Think about it. If there were no a/c's here, the south and southwest would still be a third world agricultural experiment, void of suburbs. Having done without an a/c for a while, I admit I really appreciate mine!!!

West Palm Beach, FL in 1910. I grew up about 30 miles south of where this picture was taken (and about 50 years later!). I cannot imagine hanging out in the heat there wearing those clothes.

However, in 1910, if you went straight east from there about 2-3 miles you would be into some of the best marlin, sailfish and deep sea fishing in the world at that time.



This picture does nothing to show the heat and humidity present, not to mention the mosquitoes and chiggers.



One summer when I was little my mother and I spent a weekend at a church retreat in Boca Raton at an old resort hotel from the 1920's - no air conditioning. That first night the heat and mosquitoes were horrible, neither of us got any sleep. The next morning my mother drove all the way back home just to get an electric fan which made things at least tolerable but did nothing to keep the mosquitoes away.

1. Universal suffrage. People should be required to qualify to vote by passing a qualification test or having served in the military for at least two years, and by paying responsibility taxes such as income tax, property tax, or business tax. People who don't qualify shouldn't be allowed to vote. Sales tax doesn't count as a responsibility tax.

2. The deterioration of the work ethic combined with government programs that discourage working such as welfare, food stamps, ADC, etc.

3. Political correctness and cowardice. We have become afraid to state the facts that the negative actions of black minorities are our primary social problem and that fuels our economic problems.

4. The government's failure to prosecute and fine businesses that hire illegal aliens.

5. The deterioration of traditional moral values leading to the huge increase of single parent households and all of the social and economic issues that stem from that deterioration.

6. The use of illegal narcotics. Drug addicts should be jailed for at least a year so they can dry out completely and drug pushers should be executed. Marijuana is not a narcotic.

I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned the .270 WCF.

I don't see a downfall, but to me, the greatest changes in this country in the last 50 years were brought about by:
