Just an FYI for all you Kimber owners.
Had my 257 Bob and 7-08 Montanas out today for some fun and gave them look over when I finished up. I noticed on the 7-08 that the cocking piece set screw had backed out quite a bit and was protruding out from the flat of the cocking piece. It simply took a 1/16" allen to tighten it back up. The 257 Bob set screw was also loose so it got a little clockwise action too. I believe this set screw locks in the firing pin protrusion adjustment screw on the ass end of the bolt.

My 223 has done that. If you don't catch the screw backing out in time, it will rub on the tang as you are closing the bolt and cause the action to bind up.

AL, What looks to be a black hole near the end of the bolt has a allen head set screw (sunk). As Jeffrey noted, if it backs out far enough, it'll bind with the rear tang during bolt operation.

Mine is an earlier model and it has two screws. Both were a bit loose. Thanks for bringing this to our attention Paul B.

Had a smith install a custom stock and ceracote my Kimber 22-250. When I first fired it at the range, most rounds would not fire. It was that firing pin adjustment screw that was messed up.

Thanks so much sir...a pic (as always) is worth a thousand words to those like myself that aren't to keen on the gun parts lingo. Thanks for dumbing it down to my level.

Good info. I've got five 84Ms and have not run across this problem yet, but will watch for this.
Does this screw backing out affect the firing pin adjustment or must it be all the way out before adjustment is lost?

I think it does. I started having some light primer strike issues with mine about a year after buying it. Worked fine when new, and for the 1st year or so. I read on line, here I think, how to adjust the firing pin. Mine was loose, after adjusting the firing pin out a little further, and putting lock tight on the set screw I've had no further issues. I still check it regularly.

Thanks, never noticed this set screw. What is it's purpose and how does it function?

Sorry, I didn't realize this was a 3 year old thread I'd already replied to.
