Enjoyed the "Perfect Whitetail Rig" thread so much I thought I'd start a "Perfect Mountain Rifle" thread...
Money is no object, what's your idea of the perfect rifle/bullet/scope for hunting the Rockies on foot for elk, muledeer, black bear, Shiras Moose, and Mountain Goats? While a have a few that meet the criteria, if I were to build one with an unlimited budget it would be something like this.....
ACTION - Pierce Titanium LA with Ti lug and LW bolt. Titanium Cerakote.
BARREL - Krieger #2, short shank crowned @24" and a Vias brake. Titanium Cerakote.
STOCK - McMillan Mountain Rifle Edge, ADL, Speckletone black w/gray, white specs, sans checkering and titanium pillars.
CHAMBERING/BULLET - 7mm Rem Mag and the 168gr Accubond LR
SCOPE/RINGS - Leupold VX-3 3.5x10x40 M1 elevation and Pierce LW rings.
TRIGGER - 2lb Shilen

Sooner or later our heritage of hunting is going to be a rich mans sport and the words "Outfitter" and "Hunt Industry" will be synonymous with cancer and A.I.D.S. among blue collar hunters like me and my family! (A.L. Williams - 2010)

Cant say i have need for a light weight mountain rifle, but a lack of need has never stopped me from dreaming about or acquiring something ever! Should be a fun one to follow.
How about adding target/actual weights, if you guys would please?

Rm. M700 Mtn. Rifle 7x57 It worked on the prairie too.... The original floorplate model of the Remington Mountain Rifle was one of their very best designs for a hunting rifle. Mine was a 7mm/08 and I very much regret having let it go.

You must be a damn good instinct shooter. Neither one of those has scopes or sights...
Course wouldnt need them on a .270...the bullets just bounce off anyway....
Oh, and almost forgot....

Kimber Montana in 300 WSM. Wears a Kahles 3-10x50 AH scope in Talley LW rings. Shoots a Barnes TTSX 180 gr bullet sub MOA and is a delight to carry. This is my "elk" rifle.
Obviously more bullet than necessary for deer.
That would be a NULA 7-08 under a Zeiss Diavari-C, also in Talley LW, which prefers Barnes 120 gr TTSX.

This should be an interesting thread. Here is mine:
ACTION - Pierce Titanium LA left hand with Ti lug and LW bolt. Remington ADL mag box and spring. Custom milled Ti follower. Tungsten Cerakote.
BARREL - Lilja KS profile @ 24". Tungsten Cerakote.
STOCK - McMillan KS Edge, ADL, Speckletone olive with grey specs, 1" decelerator.
BOTTOM METAL - BAT alloy trigger guard and stainless action screws. Tungsten Cerakote.
CHAMBERING/BULLET - 7x64 or 280AI and the 150NBT for open country and 160 Woodleigh for in the timber.
SCOPE/RINGS - Swarovski 3-10 Z3 in Talley rings (or the Pierce if they would make a low enough set).
TRIGGER - Jewell HVR

Pretty tough to trump ss mdl 7 in 7 Shamwow wearing an McEdge and 2.5-8 Loopie M1 Though a gen 1 TI in 7 Shamwow would trump it. This one nothing is nothing but stock. Improve it with M1 turrets and McEdge stock then chamber it in 7 Shamwow with a nice barrel and you'ld have won the golden ticket.

I'm a simple guy. Give me a Kimber Montana either in 270 or 308, a VX3 2.5-8 in a set of talleys and I figure I'd be more than set.
