What is the procedure for making .30 Herrett brass?

What are the [absolutely necessary] dies?

What brand of .30-30 (virgin) brass makes the BEST .30 Herrett cases?

THANK YOU for any input. smile

Run .30-30 cases into sizer, to push back shoulder. At that point, a file trim die is convenient. Saw off excess case with a hacksaw, then file to length. Load a fireform load about 10-15% below max. When reloading fireformed cases, set sizer die to partial resize only, so brass stays snug in the chamber.

A 2 die set will do it, though the file trim die will save time. I don't recall any special advantage to one brand of brass or the other.

It's been 25+ years since I loaded either of the Herretts. If you have a good barrel they certainly work, but the .30-30 works just as well, IMO.
