Therma-pens are neat sho'nuff but I use one of these for BBQ and the kitchen. Might be a tad slower than the TP but it reads within a tenth of my laboratory grade certified digital probe therm. Save your $$$$$$ JMHO. http://www.amazon.com/CDN-DTQ450X-P..._5?ie=UTF8&qid=1373573276&sr=1-5Denny.
