Can you just add a round and chamber to a Tikka or does it have to go into the magazine first?

On the bench I can load single shot, sometimes they get hung up, but usually just feed off the magazine. The feed port is "slimmer" than my remingtons so it makes it slightly harder to feed a round into the chamber?

I didn't know this so it is easier to load magazine and feed. Thinking about buying a tikka

Yes you can. May require a little more care or tilt a little as old willys stated. I do it at the bench all the time and don't tilt the rifle.

Yes being that is how the firearm was designed to be used. I can load an AR 15 single shot through a chamber but I wouldn't say it was easy? Tikkas are not difficult but I tend to have fat fingers and find a Remington easier to load singly. That being said I love the Tikkas I have.

You can do it after you get the hang of the technique. I can do it most of the time with my thumb and first two fingers. Sort of like holding a cigarette between your two fingers, get it started and push it home with your thumb.

I just picked up a new Tikka T3 Lite in .308 Winchester, weighs about 8 lbs scoped. I'll admit that it's a lot easier to carry than the 10 - 12 lb rifle I normally take hunting. But if I lose twenty pounds before deer season doesn't that make up for it? I don't have any problem single loading - must come from constant practice!

How do you like the 308? i'm trying decide between getting a 308 or a 7mm-08. And all of my tikkas are fairly easy to load a single round into but u might have to tilt it one way or the other as previously stated to get the bullet started.

Very happy with it so far. I already had a blued Tikka T3 Lite in 30-06 but I really prefer a stainless rifle (for bad weather). I'd been trying to develop a good hunting load with 150 gr. bullets but the gun is showing a preference for 165s. Found a superb load with the Speer 150 gr. HotCor but only had 20 bullets to test and 30 caliber hunting bullets are hard to find! Glad I've got plenty of the heavier ones...
I wouldn't rule out the 30-06 over a .308 - both use the same long action in the Tikka. I haven't had any problem matching 30-06 velocity with my .308 (using 168 gr bullets).

I don't single load in the field and seldom waste time shooting off of a bench unless I'm sighting a rifle or checking for a problem.
I'm more interested in the spent casing coming out of the ejection port.
Don't own any Tikkas either.
Hope this helps

My Tikka 30-06 feeds so slick from the magazine I'd swear I had an empty chamber, but it never fails. I cover the ejection port with my hand though - I don't like my brass flying off and hitting the cement.
I have noticed one thing about my .308 Tikka that none of my other rifles can match. It doesn't seem to gather any jacket fouling (at least between 50 round cleanings). I've got custom barrels by Rock Creek, PAC-NOR, Krieger, and Lothar Walter. All foul to some degree but this is the first one I've seen that doesn't foul at all. Even after I let it soak overnight in copper cleaner - NOTHING!
I may to sound like I own stock in Beretta (I don't), but I'm impressed!

The tikka is no different than any other rifle. Drop a round in the breech and close the bolt. You don't need to put a round into the magazine. The only time it is tricky is if the mag is removed from the rifle. Then you need to start the round with your fingers.
