I'd think 300$ outght to net ya a 308 of some model of 99... Considered an E model?

E's are kinda common. They were the economy grade 99...that still retained the quality of the original 99 action. Sorta a parts use up gun when they made the 1960 transition to junk. I'd push ya towards the E. If the wood is too ugly 4 your likin's...just upgrade.

I was wondering about the 300 bucks. I think that would be great and maybe Jed has some for sale for 300?

The 99A was reintroduced in 1971 and produced through 1982 according to Murray's. Got the schnable forearm and straight buttstock, making it look a lot like some of the pre-mil rifles.
Never seen one on the used gun racks out here in the midwest, but they pop up on the auction sites occasionally.
The E has no cartridge counter and has a pistol grip, sometimes has a absolutely horrid finish, and so far has little to no collector value. The 99A has the cartridge counter, straight stock and brass rotor. Both have tang safety.
Around here, neither get a ton of respect as collectors, but both should be great shooters. A serial number below 1 million in a 99F or 99R in 308 would be "collectible".

I got nothin for sale. However if I had an E...I'd be able to sell it to you for 300$... Cuz i wouldn't pay over 200 for one.

so is the 308 too new to get the lever safety and straight grip. I think they went to the tang safety because that was the new age.

Mike, These guys here are still finding E's for under 300..... Actually some of us are still finding pre-mil 99F's in 308 for under $300 still. But those are few and far between....

Jed - you really need to consider becoming an internet SELLER That is, unless you have an aversion to cash

Joe - remember where you are vs. most of us. To come up to where you are and buy an F for under $300, most of us have to cross through the razor wire to get it and then cross back through the razor wire to get home. Also, I'm pretty confident that by the time we got there, we'd find you'd gotten there ahead of us
