My CZ FS 9.3X62 after slightly modifying the original stock by slightly slimming the fore-end, modifying the cheek piece and installing a new recoil pad. Weighs 8 lbs. 3 oz. as pictured.

That is a sweet looking rig.

It might be sacrilege, but I do believe I like the .366 better than the .35

Just aquired a 9.3 x 74 a while back and am enjoying playing with it.

What are you loading in that beauty?

My usual load was suggested by John Barsness of 65 g. of Big game behind a 286 g. bullet. In my rifle these average about 2400 fps.

When the photos of the rifle were taken I had just fired it with a load of PRVI (Graf's) brass, Hornady 286 g. bullets, WLRM primers and 65 g. of Big game. I was shooting at water filled gallon plastic milk jugs at a paced 130 yards. Went 11 for 12, 2 from off-hand, 4 from the sitting position and 6 (including the miss) from an improvised rest.

I intend to use a load of the 270 Speer bullet behind 67 g. of BG for deer in thick cover this year. This load just reaches 2500 fps on my chronograph.

Since I slightly modified the stock; I can hold this rifle off-hand better than any of my other rifles. Felt recoil seems less with the new recoil pad which necessitated shortening the stock which also reduced the drop at heel. This may also affect my perception of recoil.

I have become very attached to this rifle in-spite of the fact that I am a recoil wimp and will be 69 in a few days.

Some folks don't like 'em but I shoot off a weighted lead sled when doing load development. In the field with the type of hunting I do, I very seldom need more than one shot. Being a young and excitable small boy of 62 years, my blood is usually up enough that the joy of taking game lasts longer than the miserey or memory of recoil.

AMRA, the scope is a Leupold 3X20 "Big Bore" with the standard duplex. I have a second one on the way. I will have the reticule changed by Leupold to either the post and duplex or the heavy duplex - I'm still mulling that over in my mind.

geedubya, those are beautiful Mannlicher stocked rifles, just looking at them makes my wallet go into spasms ! When I consider how much money the bottom one alone cost!

I do have two others, a CZ 452 22. LR and a Husqvarna 30-06.

The Mauser has new glass, Leupold VX-1 3-9. On sale in Lewistown, I couldn't resist. I'm leaning towards getting either a standard target turret, or an M1.. Elevation only.

I'm likin' it A LOT so far.. Super bright and clear... and cheap. I haven't shot the rifle with it on yet, but will before too long. FWIW, do you happen to know how much it costs to get a standard Leupold target turret installed? I know an M1 is right around $80.

I bought the LR Dotz model...these new ones have the same coatings on the lenses that VX-IIs used to have, and click adjustments. GOOD Bang for the buck!

M1s and Target Turrets are both $90 apiece. I think you'd like the M1s a bunch.

Elevation only, at least for me. The ones I have that have the wind knob I wish didn't.... they get in the way and I never spin them!

Thanks.. That was what I was figuring on, but I wasn't sure as I have zero experience with turrets. Are M1s more user(beginner) friendly that standard target turrets?

They are basically the same thing, minus a threaded cap that you don't have to use (Target Turrets) and the way you reset the turret. The M1 is much easier to reset, because it uses one larger allen screw rather than 3 tiny ones like the TT's do.

From here on out, I'll use M1s. You'll be fine, you're way smarter than I was just starting with turrets.

Thanks.. I was leaning towards an M1 anyway, but I'll definitely go with them now. Easier is better for me! I probably won't get one for a little while(gotta buy trapping stuff!), but if all goes right I'll have it before winter.
