My son and I recently started participating in AR Centerfire and rimfire competition's at my local club. I can't begin to tell you how much fun they are. The 2 we have entered have both been tactical in layout and really make you think. My son loves the competition and now wants to go practice as much as possible. The best part, as newbies to this kind of event, the folks running it went out of their way to make sure we were safe, had a good time a were successful. I can't say enough positives about these kinds of events. Don't sit on the sideline, everyone has to start somewhere. It's my guess your club will appreciate your participation.

Here's a pic from sight in day.

Nice post, glad you had a great time! Time with your young man!
Most all the matches at "Club" level are a lot of fun.
When you get good things get a little more serious but you can take it as far as you want, or as far as your skill and finances will go.

We have a small action pistol club that shoots once a month at Burro Canyon in So Cal. It's usually 3 pistol stages and then a 3-gun. Nothing formal, but fairly strict safety rules. It varies each month. We have rimfire match planned soon and in October we celebrate the OK Corral with a single action match kinda replicating the shoot-out. Otherwise it is semi-auto on silhouettes and (fire warnings permitting) steel plates and poppers. It may run 100 to maybe 150 rounds a month for the pistols, 10-20 rounds for the rifle and shotgun.

We welcome newcomers. The fee of $25 includes targets, pasters and the range fee. We have an outdoor range area to ourselves.
