I just purchased a new Ruger 10/22 this morning and as I was tightening up the scope mount screws I Stripped the mounting holes out on 2 of the holes in the reciever. I don't know what size/pitch these are but head diameter is .225 and the length of the threads is .195. obviously I know the holes need stepped up and rethreaded but what size screw/thread pitch do I need to get?
I can't believe I just did that but oh well, we all do stupid stuff every now and again. I just assumed the torque would be 20-22 in Lbs instead of reading the manual and seeing that it was to be 12-15 in lbs. Any help here is appreciated, thanks.
Seems we constantly hear about how Social Security is going to run out of money but we never hear about welfare or food stamps running out of money. What's interesting is the first group WORKED for their money but the other group didn't.

If the screw shank is around .132 you have the standard 6-48 screw.
Brownells sells an oversize tap and screws for stripped-out scope mounting holes.
080-598-146AH .146-48 taper tap (one)$34.00 080-598-148AH .146-48 bottom tap (one)$38.00 080-719-112AH filister head .146-48 (dozen)$9.00 080-719-212AH Weaver head .146-48 (dozen)$7.00

the oversized 6-48 screws and tooling that broswnells sells works fine. I believe your 10-22 receiver is aluminum which is softer than steel and this may explain how 2 of your mount holes got stripped. suggest you tighten moderately and use blue Loctite. Mel

+1 I have used the Brownell's oversize screws with complete satisfaction. When reassembling just remember that these are find threads in aluminum and will not stand the torque the same threads will in steel. Use moderate tightening force, when they feel tight stop and od not apply additional force. Blue Loc-tite will hold everything secure.
