I think you should jump on it.
An R in 308 is a hard find let alone an RS.

Well you guys might just talk me into it. It is about 100 miles away but I will make the trip. The man is very old and cannot walk anymore so it would be great to get this one and keep it going. he said "do everything while you are young enough to to it". Does make you think.

When it comes to choosing friends....I'm at an age where I'd rather have 4 quarters than 100 pennies.

Tough to tell if it truly is an RS rather than an R, but either way it'll be a good buy if it's really in "excellent condition". That is such a subjective term..
Worth a 100 mile trip imho.. good luck!

Still a nice rifle, and resonable at that price. A little more recoil. Buy it.
Everything you now do is something you have chosen to do. Some people don't want to believe that. But if you're over age twenty-one, your life is what you're making of it. To change your life, you need to change your priorities.

Guns under 1 mill serial number have the lever safety.
$550 is pretty high for an F but if it's in extremely good condition you won't get one cheaper.
Shipping and a transfer fee usually adds $50-75 to a sale so think about that.
Just buy it.

ouch- so I guess the $300 - $400 guns are a day of the past. It is only money. the serial number is 955025 so I guess when I see it if all is good I better get it. Maybe I could sell it to Jed.

I'll buy all the pristine (in my eyes) pre-million ser #'ed 99-f's you can produce at 600.

something i am questioning. I have not seen the gun yet. He said the safety is on the lever. but all the pics I can find show a tang safety. did they produce it both ways/

tbjohn.. 99F made from '55 to '73, safety switched from lever to tang in '60. Lots of other "cost-cutting" measures took place in '60, along with switch to post-million serial numbers. So the pre-mils (pre-million) serial numbers are usually considered as higher quality than the post-mils.
So you found one of the good ones.. now if the metal and wood are in great shape you're good to go.
Jed, better watch the compliments. I might start thinking I know something! <grin>
