Just picked up an 8 twist 260 AI in a trade. Been a few years since Ive owned one and when I owned it all I shot in it was 95 Vmaxs and 120 SMKs. Whats everyone running for powder and pill combos?

I ordered some 123 and 140 Amaxs to start things off right. And will dabble with Scenars and VLDs. I like the idea of the 123's myself. We'll see how they work.

Since we've been playing with the 6.5x55 for years and have always been very, very pleased with it's performance on game, I've been day dreaming of a .260 as a "modern 6.5x55".

If you are so inclined sir, what are the specifics of your newest acquisition?

Although I've never played with that round, we're currently housing two AI chambered rifles in the safe, so I guess you could say I've at least tasted the koolaid.

An 8" twist would be the way to go too if our experience with the Swede is any indication.

Thanks in advance for anything you care to throw out archie and all the best to you in the last day of this long weekend.

Regards,
Dwayne

Hey Dwayne, the Swede is definitely a sweat heart, and the .260s are just as sweet.

This one is a Custom 700 built by Nobby, I got in in a trade off CGN for a song and a dance.

26" Hart SS 8 twist with KDF brake MUCH heavier than a Sendero contour, not sure exactly what contour though.
700 Long Action (blued)
tuned walker tricker
Boyds Warner laminate varmint stock (just sold it, and bought a HS Precision)

Plans for this winter are putting the barrel onto a short action, knocking it down to 24" and sitting it in a orange and black A4 stock I have.

Optics are still up in the air.

A good friend of mine who now lives in Whitehorse used to go fishing with Nobby - this is years back now.

Then too I know Aubrey White fairly well and he used Nobby for all or at least most of the Canadian Imperial Magnums that got built.

I've lost fistfuls of money to rifle Nobby built at turkey shoots down in Oliver back in the day too, so I've got not one bad thing to say about the quality of his work. cool

Its not my rifle or anything archie, but I'm surely liking your plans for the barrel and brake. That said I'm rather anti-brake most days so there you go, but again there are no flies on most Hart barrels that I've seen shoot.

A short action .260AI in a Wildcat Composites stock keeps dancing through my mind archie, something that would end up about 6 to 7lb would make a nice walking around rifle.

The major impediment at present to my dream build is having 4 drivers in the house. So trying to keep 4 vehicles on the road seems to be eating up my "excess rifle building fun money" fairly successfully as of late.

Ah well sir, I'll just have to live vicariously through builds such as yours - so thanks again for sharing the details.

All the best to you in the upcoming week archie, stay safe and try to eat well enough to stay healthy.

Regards,
Dwayne
