I hunt an area that is BLM land and is accessed by a public road. Last year two gates were chained and locked the day before hunting season. It is pretty remote and I am sure it must be someone hunting the muzzleloader deer hunt.
Went to another area the first couple days, then came back with a "Dremil", cutoff wheel, ext cord and power inverter. Worked great! (I already owned em)
New locks were back on in two days. Cut em again!
Any ideas on how to deal with this person, as I suspect it may happen again this year?
John

Can you hide a game cam along the route to figure out who is doing it.?

Go see your local deputy or DFW guy and get his business card.
Tape said card to the cut lock.

Cut the lock off and replace it with one exactly like it that you have the key to.

Still bring the cutters tho - wouldn't be surprised if the guy snaps his key off in the lock trying to horse it.

Best to report it to the local game warden and double check that the ground is still BLM. They trade from time to time. If the warden gives you the okay to cut it then have at it.

I'd call the blm office to make sure it's not them. Roads get closed all the time for various reasons. If they're doing it, you could get in trouble for cutting it.

We had that happen by accident at a hunting lease. A cousin of the land owner didn't get the message that the land had been leased and the lock changed. He must have used a gallon of WD-40 trying to get that lock unstuck. I bet grass still doesn't grow under that lock and it has been 25 years. That was one unhappy man when I pulled up and unlocked the gate with no problem. He used words I still don't know the meaning of. Everybody but him thought it was funny ... until we lost the lease.

Bristoe is my hero.
I think he came up with the perfect solution.
The bad guys who put the locks up to keep out everyone but themselves, will be locked out.
Perfect justice, and brilliant.
