Just purchased an early smokeless SAA that started life as a .41 Colt.

Some time in the past a replacement Colt barrel and a new cylinder were added to make a neat .38 Special shooter.

Internet research shows a lot of older Single Actions were redone by Colt after WWII in .38 or .45C to get them shooting again. In fact colt would even re-barrel BP frames in .38 special.

My question is has anyone ever seen a Colt cylinder with recessed chambers?

This one has the counter sunk chambers like an S&W 19.

Cylinder and barrel blue match, frame is case hardened.

Google images yielded pictures of a few more first generation re-done .38 specials with identical cylinders......

Does anyone else have one like this or have any input?
