Hard to believe the Russians are as bad at driving as they are at, well, pretty much everything more advanced than washing potatoes.

They drink "Whadka" in copious amounts at all times of the day.
Think about the fact that nobody, except Russians, buys anything that is made in Russia. Here's this massive country and their only exports are raw materials, metal, oil and lumber. Nothing that they make.
Hint, don't ever travel on a Russian built plane.

The Kazakh's were right up there. I was not allowed to drive or use a cab, though lack of driving skill was not the only reason.

I rented a room for a year to a gentleman named Zbigniew Zalewski. He claimed that Russian pilots were the best based on the silky-smoothness of their landings. Zbig attributed it to the fragility of the planes. Russian pilots had to be good, otherwise the landing gear would crumble.

I guess an alternative explanation is that hard landings are hell on hang-overs.

They drive with video cameras because of a lot of insurance Fraud scams. And You will also see a lot of plan common decency too. These are You Tube favorites. Now I flown with Russian Pilots, the ones I flew with were very very very skillful. I wish I could fly a long line like some I have observed. As for there Aircraft, they make them for the rough conditions in that country, and they are anything but weak. Easy to work on too. But like a lot of things, Airplanes and helicopters do break and you do need to take care of them. They make a lot of stuff that is worth buying, The U.S Army buys MI-17's its one of the best helicopters for service in Afghanistan. Good strong easy to work on and keep running, easy to fly. The KA -32's are so good, that the Canadians use them in Logging Operations. If you bother to look at what happened to these people over the last 100 years, you could understand how to many get in trouble with the bottle, not that we don't have the same problem to an extent and a drug problem that is 100 time worst than it was in 1960! Then there is Siberia, for us hunters and fisherman its a wonderland.
