I had ankle surgery today and will be non wt. bearing for 2-3 months. My timing is terrible with regard to deer season. Told my 12 yr old that we would try hunting out of the truck. We did this some last year because we had my 5 yr old with us , and to my surprise actually had lots of deer within range. I always tried to pill up into some tall grass / cover etc.

I would like to find some good quality camo netting to put on my truck so me and my kids can hunt out of the truck this year. In the past, I have owned some netting I got at an army surplus place. It was good in that it had good 3D effect, but got really noisy and brittle with exposure to the weather. Anyone here have positive experiences with a particular brand or type of netting? Anything made that would specifically fit a 4 door long bed Chevy ?

pharmvet,

Do you really need to cover the truck? My expirence with deer (admittedly not whitetail) is that they tend to ignore strange objects if they don't percieve them as a threat, especially if they are stationary and quiet.

Not sure how old your kids are, but if they are too young to sit still, I would just cover the windows with either netting or burlap or similar..

Regards,

Peter

I agree with Pete.

Also, have you considered putting out a ground blind within a stone's throw of the truck? A camera tripod converted to a rifle rest works great with the youngins.
