I'll be using a combo gun to hunt my mulie doe in October in some good chuckar and blue grouse country.

Anyone else have plans?

The Leopard Gun and I will be hunting whitetails, squirrels and turkeys in PA and VA. We'll be walking in grouse woods and quail thickets, too. It will take a really slow, stupid grouse in an open area but there might be one out there.

I was planning on using that BRNO 204 (7x57R/12ga) for WT deer and grouse this fall, but found out it's choked x-full. Will have to get the shotgun bbl opened up to SK or IC before that combo hunt happens. The birds here are at pretty close range. Also, the rifle trigger is the worst of any trigger I've used in my life, so I might get that fixed along with the choke.

Definitely will be using a combo for deer this season.I'll be in several tree stands scattered around the"ranch".But which combo to use--I haven't decided--probably 12/308 but I may go with 12/22 savage HP

You might want to try spreader loads first before you open it up.

Those spreader loads would be next to impossible to obtain in these neck of the woods if at all.

A quick trip to the gunsmith was in order, so I sent it out yesterday. Hopefully it will return for November.

Very much so. Sept sees mountain grouse and black bear open south of Livingston, will take my 12ga/7x57R for that. Out east turkey will open up along with the usual birds, 12ga/222 for that. Yes, I'm going to shoot the turkey with a 222, I know, barbarian... Actually, I've killed a few mountain grouse with a 22LR revolver, yes it's legal in Montana, I get it, barbarian...

Ordinarily, I'd take the 12ga/7x57R after antelope in early Oct but the ranch I'll be hunting on doesn't allow bird hunting and frankly other than opening morning you'd be really lucky to get a shot under 350 yards, 450 plus is a real possibility so the 270 bolt gun goes.

General season, pretty much just the 12ga/7x57R for deer, I have 5 tags and two areas with pheasant etc available in both.

Later season elk, just the 9.3x62, since I've never seen any birds up that high that late. I'm tempted to take the 7x57R but I've had a couple of butt on shots in that timber so no.

I just talked with two different friends who were out in their areas, scouting deer. Both saw mountain lions in their day trips yesterday.

I think I'll use a drilling for my chuckar hunting in those same areas this fall. I'll have my kitty tag in my pocket. We seem to have plenty.

That ugly Staggs Bilt contraption has been calling to me. I have 130 Barnes loads for the 30/30 barrel so may carry it for bear or deer and grouse. Will definitely hunt chukar and coyote with it this winter.

The one I handled looked awfully interesting. I almost popped for it, but I was 300 miles from home and headed to my hunting spot with low funds. I had to pass. I ended up getting a decent buck the next day and went back to find it now on lay-away. frown

Bruce,

I may tote the 16x16/6.5x67R Sauer when you show up to go hunting mountain grouse in September. Will have a couple of woof tags and a lion tag, and we might see one of either.

I'll be carrying my one of my drillings (Thieme & Schliegelmilch Nimrod 16x16/8mmR, below, or no name 16x16/9.3x72) in NH for deer and grouse this November.

Scuse me, Pahtridge.

The South Carolina woods will find me with the new Baikal 12Ga/.308.As it now stands that will be my "one" gun and the others will go bye bye.
