Good rule of thumb. Keep shooting 130s 'till they quit working.

I like the idea of the compromise weight of 140 grs. Would the extra weight of a 140 gr. Sierra Game King off set the advantages of the flat base on the 130 gr. Pro Hunter for game as large as cow elk?

I've never owned a 270 win [ got the wby version in a no. 1 ] but a friend sent his new Sako in 270 win down last year for me to work up a load for .

I gave it back after a month , and told him :

1. It was the most accurate out of the box WITH FACTORY AMMO that I ve ever shot !

2. I could not beat the factory ammo as far as accuracy and could not match the velocity !

Wish I could remember which factory shells it shot so well , but my notes are packed away .

I post this only because I steered clear of the cartridge so many years because of the " hunting accuracy is all you can expect from the 270 win " comments I read .

I still like the wby better . mine puts the 130 tsx into little bitty groups about 300 fps faster than his win .

That is one thing about the .270 Winchester. It is not a rifle that needs to be tweaked. Most good ones will shoot a wide variety of ammunition into consistent small groups.
