I'll start by saying that plumbing is my absolute least favorite of all home improvement projects.
I'm in a 20 year old house that I may turn into a rental next year. The toilets are by Mansfield, which are a unique design, and hard to flush (it's hard enough getting my young kids to flush the toilets, but then it's hard for them to actually flush the toilets too). I'd like to go ahead and replace all the internal parts to avoid any problems when the house becomes a rental.
Are there better options than the Fluidmaster complete repair kit?
Thanks

Maybe you just have the nut on the handle WAY tight? All the handle does is lift the flapper on the bottom of the tank.
Maybe get a bigger handle for more leverage?

Mansfields don't have a flapper, it's a different design. Given how old they are I'd prefer to replace all the innards, preferably with something other than Mansfield.

go buy a new toilets, buy the tall ones from Home depot for about $120.00 each, the look cleaner, don't clog as easy and have a duel flush.

if you do end up replacing the toilet itself, lemme look at what the plumbers put into our house a couple years ago when they re-plumbed the whole house.
they were only about $150 and have proven to be virtually impossible to plug up, even for kids.

Yes, it's easier to just replace the entire toilet. Just make sure you measure the distance from the wall to the toilet base. Maybe it's not an issue in a 20 year-old house, but you want to make sure you know that measurement and to make sure that whatever you buy fits within that distance.

Years ago I bought a Gerber brand and put Fluidmaster guts in it. Nary a problem. Buy good fixtures, you won't regret it.

It's not uncommon for the flush valve on a Mansfield to stick to its' seat a bit. I have 2 Mansfields in my house and one sticks and one doesn't. Go figure.
Fluidmaster is good stuff, don't worry about that.
FWIW, the standard Mansfield is a pretty good quality, entry level toilet, but doesn't flush all that well, which means trouble for a landlord. I'd suggest upgrading to their Summit series for an economical, good flushing crapper that won't break the bank.
