A fella could set up a 1000 yard line across a small canyon...practically? From point where the pic is taken to the pasture at the bottom of the power line ROW...ford the creek to check target w/ 4WD, over hill, over dale.... Dunno if it's 1000...looks there abouts...more of less...little bit of elevation to the shot and might have to cut a few trees....

Dan, That looks do-able, ......................for some reason my gut tells me the pasture is a bit short of 1000.
It's pretty amazing how much initial cropping , and clearing can be accomplished with a case of cheap Mil-surp ammo.
A couple or 3 of scrounged oxygen, CO2, or argon bottles tacked together side by each will suffice, to get things rolling.. or a 44" disc, of plate...............Suspended off an A-framed rail. Spot 'em where you propose your impact area, and plink 'em a bit. The " cut brush " will clearly show your fire lane, and minimize any excess clearing chores. An elevated firing position will help minimize clearing, as well.
Not to be a wet blanket, but how's the power company feel about this?

Well, I dunno. The line doglegs right comin' down the hill so I'd be plinkin' over the top by a fair bit...mebbe 50-100 feet. The orientation of the pasture where the pic was taken allows for more counter clockwise rotation of the firing line...more range...scaling aerials looks close to 1200 yards max. If I go to the ridge to the right of the pasture I'd be shooting slightly downhill, probably about 1600 yards or so. Good ideas on elevating the line, and clearing the lane though, hadn't thought about that. Got plenty of idle ammo for the project... Maybe even an old tractor for a target... That ridge...about 60* right of the power line pic. The valley in the middle, firing line right, target line to left...90ish* give or take. Power pole middle right, line dropping down into the canyon(?).

Dan, I think once the turkey situation is quelled, that the place would look pretty good in this format .........these are pics of the "Ackley Herd" GTC

Well boys, if I find myself faced with a Turkey-Wave assault you'll be first to know. The hillside littered with buffalo reminds me, not far away is a buffalo farm/ranch...whatever....who'll bring the charcoal?

GTC,
Thanks for the re-post of the Ackley herd pics. These show two of the four herds. Sharp-eyed folks may notice the "Quigley bucket" in the middle of the lower herd, and the turkey at the upper left. First shoot will be the weekend of April 22-23. Y'all come!
