I have a 416 Howell. The dies I have are from CH4D. It uses a 404 Jeffery cutdown and necked down.

What lenth do you cut down to before you size it? I talked to a guy at rcbs and he said there are two slightly diffrent .416 howell chambers out there, he was nice enough to send me a case to see if it fits the chamber. How is the recoil on your rifle? What kind of action and barrel, Thank you Joe.

My reamer was the one Ken Howell had made. My rifle is built on a transition pre-64 (about 1947 or 48) it was a 30-06. I cut the brass down to 2.5 inches. I have a Pac-Nor stainless #5 barrel. The rifle is pretty heavy about 10 pounds. It has some kick to it but not too bad, about like a 12 guage shooting slugs.

It currently has a McMillian stock on it but I aqm going to have a Serengetti stock made for it.

This is an older picture that I have posted before, but my digital camera took a dump, so I can't take anymore photots for now.

JustJoe,

What is RCBS quoting you for the dies? I am going to send some brass to Redding to have some different dies made, as well as some form and trime dies made? Where are you located? If you are close to Tampa, I would let you try out the rifle.

RCBS wants $245 for dies and that is who I will buy them from. I really like RCBS and I live in California and there up the road a bit. Thank you for offering to let me try your rifle out, very nice of you. Thank you.

There is an article in Handloader #92, July-August 1981 by Ken Howell on the cartridge and first rifle. It is a short article and there isn't a lot of info in it.
