My nephew is really taking to waterfowl and he shoots left handed and wants a new auto loader
What are my options it looks like tristar or escort for under 600 or a Benelli for $2k
Are the lesser ones reliable? Any other options?

I'm left handed and shoot a RH auto. I just either reverse the safety or get a LH one as needed. I never have a problem with empty hulls hitting me.

Remington made LH 1100's, but I don't know that you'd want one for waterfowl. Are pumps not an option? The Browning BPS is great for lefty's.

I have a SBE and Montefeltro and flipped the safety on both. No problems at all. In my first reply, I was giving the OP an answer to his question.

I ran a RH auto Waterfowling part of last season. My right eye really suffered and its not safe. Pass shooting over head, the right eye gets a LOT of hot powder and gas in it.
I'm a broke SOB, but I'm scraping money for a dedicated lefty. Not worth my eye.
A Benelli M2 should be street price $1099 or so. The TriStar G2 or G3 Viper is supposed to be on the shelves by now in LH. I've never seen the Escort in LH but those are supposed to be in stores too.
Older Remington 1100s came in LH as did a few 1187s. Both will be over $500 I'd guess.
Of course the SBE is available but those are over $1600 I believe.
Please God, give me some good tags this year....

I use the Benelli Super 90 in Left Hand and it doesn't get any better. Find him a used Benelli in Left Hand

While not an autoloader, don't overlook the BPS, which is a very ambi design.

As is the new Ohio-built or older Ithaca 37.

i have a lefty benelli m2. shoots sweet. shot dove this weekend without a hitch. it'll shoot any shell, never had a hiccup.
If he wants a gun that'll last and he can swing the price then the m2 is the way to go. (m2 = 3" shells)

I have LH SBE II that I duck hunt with. It fits me well and has been very reliable since I bought it 5 years ago. It was tough to pay that much, but I have no regrets and no plans to get rid of it.

THIS ONE!! I've been shooting one for years. It gets no better than the SBE.

I'm a lefty and have taken to shooting "righty" auto's if the safety is reversible. I've never felt sorry for myself because hulls flew out across my windshield; in fact, can't say I've ever noticed It..I don't think you can go wrong with most of the Benelli's--Montedeltro, M1 and 2s--and have a Beretta X400 now that I really like too.
I'm only commenting on those s I have experience with.

This is what it comes down to safety. Buy a left hand gun he will have it for life and like it more.

I am left handed and recommend the Remington 1100 LH or the Browning BPS or the Ithaca Model 37. I have them all and enjoy them. I do not like shooting any shotgun that ejects across my face.
