Specifically, does anyone have any real workd experience with the shorter 20 inch barrels on these rifles.

Yes. I found no practical difference in velocities between the 20.5" barrel on my CZ 550 FS in 9.3x62 and the published velocities of similar loads I found in loading manuals and in issues of "Handloader."
I had mine in a McMillan stock and it was a fast handling, hard hitting little rifle. Need to get another stock for it one of these days, it is sitting in the safe stock-less at present.

I've got an FS in 9.3, and I get 2600 with 250 Accubonds over Varget.

If they shoot like my CZ 550 with the 24" barrel you will be very happy! I'm using 285 PRVI bullets, with Varget or Big Game. Big Game is slightly more accurate but they both shoot awesome!

I have the fs in 9.3X62 and find it to be very accurate. It is not appreciably slower (maybe 50fps) in velocity than my Ruger African.

Have the FS, and am very happy with its performance in both the full stock and an aftermarket synthetic I obtained from CZ (Bell & Carlson, IIRC).

Being a relatively (just shy of 15 years) long time user of the round, if I was after a factory rifle I would search out a Ruger African without question and not touch the barrel.

I have a short barreled 35 Whelen as well as long barreled verions, not enough difference to worry over. I like em both for different occasions.
I currently have six 9,3x62's. The barrels vary in length from 23.6" to 26". My next will be a FS with 20" barrel. Probably a custom 98 but if deal on a CZ FS came my way, I'd snatch it up.
