When we are totally oversupplied with 6.5mm cartridges only rifle loonies want, bring out another one with a 100 year old name and no mission.

I'll stick with my 260s and 6.5x55s, thank you.

If "they" felt the need to put a bigger bullet in front they could have done better than .277 and yet people gobble it up and I can't figure out why?

I have two and neither has a thing to do with the cartridge but the people that I have known that shoot them. The .270 and the 25-06. It seems that all the braggarts and know-it-all's that I personally know own one or the other. They can shoot running deer at a thousand yards and up through timber and never miss a shot, yet I have brought my dog and tracked gut shot and azz shot deer for them that were shot at fifty yards or less. Doesn't shut them up for long though. miles

people who think you have to burn 60+ grains of powder, endure slamming recoil and muzzle blast to kill a 150 pound deer.

so basically, any cartridge bigger than about .280 is annoying to me unless someone is going after elk or bear.

I hate the 7 Rem. Mag. for this reason. Nothing wrong with the cartridge properly applied, but the crowd it attracts are most often looking for the cartridge, rather than practice and familiarity with equipment, to do the magic.

You can say that about most cartridges introduced in the past fifty years.

I have a loathing for the 270.

Not a big fan of the 43 Spanish, otherwise I don't get hung up on headstamps.

Kinda hard for me to hate/dislike an inanimate object such as a cartridge (or gun). Isn't that the irrational basis for the actions taken by the anti-gun crowd, and do we not chastise them for it? Let us not be hypocritical here!

That said, there are a bunch I have absolutely no personal use for and wouldn't give a hoot for if they disappeared overnight, and they all have the word "Magnum" in their names.

I don't really dislike any cartridges, but some guns are more useful/easier to shoot than others or don't fit my wants.

Generally guns with poor sighting arrangements or awkward control placements don't float my boat.

True 'nuff, I think it was the hype that got me. The .308 is wonderful, it's (almost) as good as the venerable .30-'06 it replaces. And when I was a kid the adults were all talking about how the new .243 was more effective than a bolt from Thor, my (grandfather's) sporterized Springfield was so obsolete. Knew better even then. Both are perfectly fine cartridges of course.

Anything quarter bore or .277

243, my best friend shoots deer with 1. Every other year we spend the morning looking for 1 he shot with his 243. We always find them but the way we hent if the deer goes more than 25 yds you have a big tracking job on your hands.

I'd be disliking the idiot behind the trigger more.
