Any opinions on the Millett Angle Lock Rings for Weaver style bases? I've been using the Burris Zee rings but went to install a new scope and didn't have the clearence with the low rings, barrel contour, and scope cap. A friend had a set of the Angle Locks with him that were the right height so I installed the scope with them. They seem good, but I've not heard any feedback on these. Do I keep these or or get soemthing else. The rifle is a Rem 700 in 338 Win Mag with steel weaver bases. Thanks!

I did some searches and reseach. Not many favorable comments on Millett. Off they come. Going to get some medium Zee Rings.

JAB,
just remember, the Burris Zee-rings are a bit shorter than other Weaver style rings, but they are far better than Millett.

All I've ever heard about Millett rings is that they really suck. Never heard any specifics, just that they're bad. So I reckon they must not be worth the effort to toss 'em in the trash can.
Wish I'd have been up on all that before I bought a set of extra highs 4 years ago for my AR. It sees 4 or 5 hundred rounds a year down the tube and I keep expecting the things to blow up, crush my scope, and put my eye out. Nothing yet though, dang things, the suspense is terrible. I'd never waste my money on another set, they really suck.

I am using three sets of Millet Angle Lock rings now. In two of the applications a lot of adjustment was required in windage due to out of line scope mounting holes. They can't easily be broken with a screwdriver as the only tool that will fit is an Allen wrench. One can see from the design that the little hooks that they use are not that heavy but if they are made right in terms of the steel selection and heat treating they should withstand enough torque to hold. The Angle Locks have a very rough inside ring finish even worse than the Talleys and give you little pieces of paper to put in there so as not to mar your scope! Whats that all about? It may be the fact that their ring is short in length and therefore in holding surface. Perhaps I am just careful when I installed the Angle Locks or lucky that mine have good metal. I did read that someone broke a part of an Angle Lock. Here is a set of Angle Locks on a nice Brno .22 WRM.
All guns should be locked up when not in use!

Oh yeah, had a pair on my 10/22 for a few years now, they really suck too! I'm mighty careful about how close I let a screwdriver to them. Also found that allen wrenches work purty good on them.

Besides being cheesy, they are hard on scope tubes.
Especially as a means of correcting misalgnment, because it is a static system,as opposed to the PosiLign's live center eccentric approach.
They aren't really heavy enough for decoy weights, but are better there, than in any other application I could fathom.............

Maybe I'm coddling my rifles and mounts, but I have several sets of Millett Angle Locks and find them quite satisfactory for my purposes. I haven't been playing musical scopes and my rifle caliber choices reflect mostly modest recoil. Must be doin somethin wrong. The Allen wrench has a short handle, so I haven't torqued a Millett into a pretzel yet.
Try the Milletts yourself. You are your own proving ground. If you like Titanium mounts and want to show them off, along with a receipt for three-figure scope holders, Milletts won't do much for you.
There's an easy way to mount your scope in the rings without the little flimsy insert and with all kinds of security. I haven't tried this with a 416 or some similar scopekiller, but it has been useful on all my guns. I bought a can of "Liquid Electrical Tape" at the hardware store, then put some inside the rings like a bead of caulk, placed the scope where I wanted it, then tightened the screws sequentially. If I use a little too much it squeezes out, but peels away easily after a little drying time. There probably is a downside to this method that I haven't found yet. Must be too simple or cheap. I can't see any trace of this stuff left on the scope if I use a little "Goo-Gone" on a cleaning pad and buff it away before the scope goes into another set of (cushioned) rings.
Best wishes, whatever your persuasion! Keep on shooting.

I have had three sets. All on the same rifle. All three sets have broke. Set one a screw sheared off. Set two clamp portion of the ring cracked. Set three broke screw while mounting. I broke the screw before reaching the millet recommende torque setting. Set four was leupold. I guess I needed something stronger for the hard kicking 7mm08.

IMO they might be OK for use on 22's or other light duty applications but I wouldn't want to use them for anything much larger or that I was really counting on. I've managed to break a couple of them tightening screws. I can't think of anyone I dislike enough to give my old sets too..................DJ

I bought a set for my Ruger and they would lift off the gun as you tightened them. I sent them back to Millett where they in turn lost them. After several phone calls they agreed to send me some new ones. The new ones didn't work either. Next time I think about using Milletts I will just buy some scotch tape and tape my scope to my gun and save $40.

I'm thinking the Gorilla Glue duct tape may be just perfect for tactical applications. As for inexpensive mounting options, if the Talley alloys don't float the boat, then Weavers are a sound option in the budget category.
