Those glacial streams ain't all that bad, til the last two inches to crotch level...

Jealousy??? I can't think of any reason why anyone would be jealous of younger guys with intact joints, strong hearts, etc....or NOT!  Clearly you've never harvested sea anemones, or you would have also made the obvious connection with the retraction of said associated appendage as well.

Finally got a chance to sit down and read this, thanks for the excellent write up. Never done a sheep hunt, but can sure identify with bad weather, waiting for planes, and heavy packs. Looks like you had a Platypus water system, were you satisfied with it over-all?

I tried crossing one AK braided glacial stream barefooted. After that, I just took my socks off and put my boots back on. Today I think I'd don thin liners and Sealskin socks after the crossing. Awesome write up. Thanks for sharing.

Maggie, That is a sawyer inline filter hooked to a Platypus big zip (3L). It worked quite well - gravity is a nice way to go. Pre-filtering or allowing the silt to settle out of the glacial streams would have helped a lot. It is 100X better than any pump filter that I've ever used. I don't have the patience for those, and always gave up on filtering after a couple days.
TAK, Seal skins might not be a bad idea. I wonder how they'd smell on day 10? Guess you could always bring 3 pair. If you ran plastic boots and pulled the liners before crossing, I think that could work pretty well. Saturated leather boots are not that much fun.

My idea on the Sealskins was to keep the wet boots from sucking the heat out of your feet an hour or two after the stream crossing, and the Sealskins won't get soaked from the wet boots. Wear no socks for the crossing. An even better idea is probably one of those little tiny 3# Alpaca rafts.

Wiggy Waders are great for stream crossings and they are light enough to carry in the pack. Do not bushwack with them though.

Wiggys worked great on my sheep hunt... Oh, and I hated the crossings, that water was MOVING!

I have some Wiggy's and they are very short for a tall guy...

I have some Wiggy's and they are very short for a tall guy... Buy 2 sets and stack'em. lol Yeah, these would work for the average heigth guy but someone your size I can see them being a tad short.

Looks like the Wiggy's ones have a drawstring at the top too? Thats fairly high on the priority list right now. Chris, I believe they have the straps at the top to attach them to a belt loop. You can call Marc at 336-1330 to confirm.
