I don't know about you but I'm sick of being raped by Big oil every time I have to put fuel in a Vehicle.
Shortage right? Chinese and Indians using more Right?

We need to take some intelligent, UNITED ACTION.

This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain day" campaign that was going around last April or May!
The oil companies just laughed at that because they
knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt" ourselves by
refusing to buy gas. It was more of an inconvenience
to us than it was a problem for them. BUT, whoever
thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can
really work. Please read on and join with us!

By now you're probably thinking gasoline priced at
about $1.50 is super cheap. Me too! It is currently
$2.59 for regular unleaded in my town. Now that the
oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us
to think that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at
$1.95--$2.05, we need to take aggressive action to
teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace..not
sellers. With the price of gasoline going up more each
day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we
are going to see the price of gas come down is if we
hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their
gas!
And, we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves.
How?

Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just stop
buying gas. But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if
we all act together to force a price war.

Here's the idea: For the rest of this year, DON'T
purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest companies
(which now are one), EXXON and MOBIL. If they are not
selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their
prices. If they reduce their prices, the other
companies will have to follow suit. But to have an
impact, we need to reach literally millions of Exxon
and Mobil gas buyers. It's really simple to do! Now,
don't wimp out on me at this point...keep reading and
I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of
people!!

I am sending this note to 30 people. If each of us
send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300) ... and
those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 =
3,000)...and so on, by the time the message reaches
the sixth group of people, we will have reached over
THREE MILLION consumers.

If those three million get excited and pass this on to
ten friends each, then 30 million people will have
been contacted! If it goes one level further, you
guessed it..... THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!

Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people.
That's all!
(If you don't understand how we can reach 300 million
and all you have to do is send this to 10 people....
Well, let's face it, you just aren't a mathematician.
But I am . so trust me on this one.)

How long would all that take?
If each of us sends this e-mail out to ten more people within one day of
receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be
contacted within the next 8 days!!!
I'll bet you didn't think you and I had that much potential, did
you! Acting together we can make a difference.

If this makes sense to you, please pass this message
on. I suggest that we not buy from EXXON/MOBIL UNTIL
THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE $1.30 RANGE AND KEEP
THEM DOWN.
THIS CAN REALLY WORK IF YOU DO WHAT IT SAYS!!!

Other companies to buy from are BP, Texaco, Shell, Getty, Hess, Sunoco, Conoco and any other BUT NO EXXON/MOBILE

You are proposing a very simple solution to a very complex problem

BTW the latest spike in gasoline prices is the result of the Feds requireing ethanol as an additive instead of the usual additive.

Uhhhhhhhh, only one problem. I own a lot of Exxon/Mobil stock and well as several other refiners. High gas prices have been very very good to me. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Oil makes up less than 25% of the
price of gasoline. Other fixed costs are refining, distribution,
profits and taxes. The biggest variables are supply and demand.

Free oil does not equate to free gasoline. The best way to decrease
the price is to decrease demand (not likely) or increase supply. You
can also decrease the price of gasoline by not taxing it.

What I notice is that the call to reduce prices has only come about since the Sockpuppet took over the Govt. in 2001
Perhaps we should appeal to President Cheyney to take action against the "Fuel Rapists"
The problem is the scenario will work if enough of People decide to do it.

The only way to lower the prices is to lower consomtion, not for a day, week or month , but for a substane lenght of time. Europe use to export diesel to the US now we export over 10% of that the US makes to them. thier fuel cost have been higher than ours for a long time to you real think they are going to cut back just because we'er paying 2.60 a gallon and they'er paying 6.00 a gallon ( or thier equivalent).
As for not buying from Exxon/mobil , the next time you drive by the loading rack at a refinery you may notice trucks getting fuels from other companys. this is a comond practice to trade out loads from other companys,
I wouldn't plan on fuel cost going back to 1.60 a gal ever again.

The only way to reduce prices is to reduce demand. Just not buying from Exxon Mobil or another company will not do it. If you just buy from another company, total demand will remain the same and so will prices.

We need to reduce total consumption and buy fewer oil products. Advise: Drive less or buy 30+ miles per gallon small cars, buy fewer composite gun stocks (oil/chemical products), buy fewer plastic items (oil products), buy less aspirin (another petrochemical), don't cut the grass (again we use oil products), don't travel and use fuel, etc.

We do need to cut our oil consumption and that's not just to save money, but to save our economy and our future. The Chinese and Arabs already own our debt (Treasury notes) and are in a position to subtly influence our policies!

As noted previously, we can decrease demand or increase supply. Given our propensity to use oil, it is doubtful that demand will be reduced by much. We can increase supply by drilling deeper in the oceans (we are already at over 700 feet below water), exploiting the Canada oil sands in Alberta to a greater extent, drilling in Alaska (heck with the environment and wildlife), etc. All of these are more expensive than we are now paying.

Face it, over the long run, there is no way for refined product prices to go but up!

Also, the crude oil supply is not the limitation on refined product. Rather it is the refinery capacity in the world. We are consuming refined product at a faster rate than it is being refined. US refineries are running at about 90% capacity. Hurricanes and refinery explosions have curtailed much of our reserve capacity and we just can not import refined product at levels to make up for that.

You forgot Turn Arounds, Mec failures (loseing all your boilers at -23�) and pipe line interruption,

One problem. My son drives gas truck and delivers to all kinds of stations. There are three fuel racks where gas can be picked up in his part of the world. That makes them the big three. All gas comes from one of those three fuel racks. So, if you don't want to buy from one of the big three then you better figure out how to live without gas.

Get a life, the mom and pop stores are selling the same gas as the big boys.

The other problem is the "toughest dog in the fight" ratio,
How long you can go with out gas VS how long a diverse multinational company can go with out your cash.

Of course IF it was to happen and NO ONE bought from those companys at the retail level the other non boycotted companies would buy all the extra production refined by those companies, and sell it to you anyway.

Why do people get all mad when gas goes up but don't blink an eye at paying $3+ for coffee with milk in it? The price of Roma tomatoes jumped from $.69 a pound to $1.69 a pound a while back and it stayed there. Nobody said a word.

It's inflation and market pressures. Nothing you as an individual can do but use less of it or charge money for your whining to offset the higher prices. Good luck on getting people to pay you to whine though.

In 1956 I bought gas for 36�. Today that 36� is worth $2.68 according to the Fed's Consumer Price Index. The problem is mostly the improvement of the efficiency of those gummit printing presses.
