1992 F150 4X4/302 5 speed manual. 177,000 miles, last clutch 42,000 miles ago, resurfaced flywheel, new (not rebuilt) pressure plate/disc/T/O, slave cylinder, new Hurst shifter (OE was wiped out). Today locked up on me several times in traffic and could only shift after I shut it down and screeching coming up through the tunnel. T/O dried out? Shift forks? What else? Just need to keep it on the road another year, plus hunting next week. What say you? SA comments not appreciated at this point. Old man is not in a good mood tonight.

Only being able to shift without the motor running tells me it's a clutch related issue. Possibilities include a frozen pilot bearing or collapsed release (throw out) bearing, especially if you're hearing noise when depressing the clutch. Could also be a bad pressure plate with collapsed diaphragm or broken fingers.

Thanks badger! Kind of what I am thinking, but dammit... I don't ride the clutch, haven't towed any heavy loads other than our 19ft trailer only a couple of times during the years. Just going to bite the boolit and take it to our mechanic in the morning and turn it over to him. Going to be an expensive hunting trip this year per my wife. Still need to throw on new tires before we head out on the 10th. Stuff happens, just guessing it was my turn. Thanks again for your input.

who ever you have do it make sure they replace the slave even if it looks fine, those internal slaves in the Mazada trans are very fail prone.

The internal slave cylinder is a given along with engine rear main seal.

I'm retired and I have a Ford so I guess I'm an old Ford guy.
