My old tried-'n-true friend, Remington 725 .280 Remington, with my handload of 56.0 grains of IMR 4350 and a 140 grains Nosler Partiton bullet. That's worked just fine for me for years.
Good luck to all.

Must be just hell to have to agonize over such a decision.
Just hold a rifle lottery. Assign each one a number and have someone neutral draw a number out of a hat.
Just to be fair.

Only 1 deer. Man, you have my sympathies! I know farmers around here that get special depredation permits in the spring just to keep the deer off their beans!!
Those who must raise their voice to get their point across are generally not intelligent enough to do so in any other way.

I'd pick either you 30-30 or one of your MkII Rugers. Happy hunting!

i am going with 250 savage, with hopes it's back in time lol
if not the .223 is getting some barnes treatment I just got a Ruger M77, RSI, in 250 Savage. I first shot it yesterday, and it seems to shoot well, but how far out can I go with this one? Whitetail, 100 gr. I often go to 300 yds. but no farther.

i'd think that's a fair limit unless you're a heck of a rifleman.

I used to go through this "drill" of what rifle among many chamberings to take hunting. Looking back with the hindsight of 40+ years, I now realize it was all a learning curve and at some point it dawned on me that it didn't matter, within pretty broad parameters, what I used. The results were always the same and I never came back not having killed an animal where I could say the chambering was at fault.I killed with them all. In short, if you go through this drill each year, you likely have too many rifles in too many worthy, but duplicitous, chamberings.
The 280 Remington is overbore.
The 7 Rem Mag is over bore.

"Duplicitous" sounds like lawyer talk.

I don't see a bad choice in the bunch, Kaiser. Get them all ready to go, loads worked up, sighted in, etc. Then grab whatever jumps into your hands when you're loading up the truck. I have a narrower selection of guns, so it is the loads that I've been stewing about.
