Is anyone here familiar with this old gun? I promised a good friend that I'd ask the guys who know what it's worth. I want to list it at a fair price, not give it away, get it wrong, or ask too much, and never draw a bid.

Thanks a million.

From Gun Guide: Remington Model 11 12 gauge (made between 1911 and 1948 designed by John Browning) The Remington version of the early Browning A5. This one has few markings. 28" ribbed choked (.690) "full." Fair to poor condition in my eyes, but I need glasses. Stock is cracked at the grip. Bluing mostly gone. Could use a thorough defunkifying and inspection.

I oiled it up and put three target shells through it this morning. It fired and cycled fine.

A bunch more super big photos (click twice on the magnifying glass)http://s338.photobucket.com/user/PMonster/library/Remington%2011?sort=3&page=1

My local shop just had one with good wood and about 90% of it bluing still intact for $165. I had it in my hand and should have bought it as a parts gun for the one I hunt with.

If you want to know the year of manufacture just email the serial number to Remington and they will let you know in a day or so. The model 11 I bought a couple years ago was made in 1913.

In that somewhat rough shape I think $175-200 is in the ballpark. They're solid shotguns and very durable..

You guys are great. Thanks for the ideas and sharing them.

I fixed the broken link to the pics at PB.

This got me to thinking about one other thing. When you appraise a firearm that is ~100 years old versus one that is relatively new, does the scale of conditions, fair - good - very good - excellent, shift downward? In other words, is it fair to grade an antique the same way you would grade a modern gun?

I bought 2 Model 11's about 5 years ago, paid $180 for one, $200 for the other. Didn't get stung on either IMHO.

I sold a M11 in 16 ga about two years ago for nearly $400, IIRC, and it was in about 90% condition at the time..

Inspection revealed a broken and brazed barrel retaining ring. I think this one is a parts gun.
