Just received 100 each 06 and 6mm Remington brass cases. It has been many yrs. since I had to order new brass. I have forgotten--do I need to do anything special to the new brass or can I go ahead and prime and charge and seat bullets? Thanks. Nick

well, if you don't know about new brass, send it to me and I'll send you some once fired that you know how to handle

size, check for lenght, deburr and load.

Like others said, resize and check the length. I've never had a new case anywhere near overlength, but I've heard of bad lots that can cause problems if not trimmed.

I have found that the case necks on a lot of new brass need to be trued up - somewhat out of round, and they all need to be deburred.

BTW -- most of 30-06 brass over the years has been retrieved from the ground in gravel pits about a week before moose season from all the Nimrods firing 3 rounds in practice. Once it's cleaned and sized, I like it better than new brass -- cause it's cheaper.

Thanks-young -uns! Did remember to chamfer the inside neck. Made up a dummy round and it fit fine without sizing. Looked over all the brass and found no dents in the necks. When priming with the Lee, I noticed much pressure was needed to seat primer. My old brass primer pockets are enlarged because the primers slip in very easily. Length is well within limit. 2.480 Loaded up 30 -- 15 using sierra 165 spitz. and 15 using nos.bal tip 165. Imr 4350, cci 200 primer. Grains of powder 54.0-55.0-55.5 (5 shells each weight) I know that the sierras will beat the bal tip to death but I am stuck with 2 boxes of greenies and need to shoot them. The greenies shoot better in Colt-Sauer '06. The sierras much better in the Rem 700LSS '06. Ran out of primers and will try a few kitchen match heads-listen closley for the bang.
