I discovered that I had a few colonies of Rapacious Panther Ant - Pachycondyla harpax (mainly a tropical spps. but also in S. TX )in my yard so I went out tonight at dark to see if I could find them hunting. They are a big ant around .5 inches and the colonies are kinda small. To my surprise I found 6-8 of them tearing into a termite tunnel. They caught my eye because the Termites were defending their tunnel so vigorously. The Panther ants didn't blink. In fact it was an all you eat buffet. The Panther ants never left with one termite. They would grab one, then pin another to the ground, grab it and pin another. I think I saw one with at least 5 termites in it's mouth. The termites had a very rough night..Very cool to watch..
