If you're a skier/snowboarder, Utah snow is tough to beat.

I lived in Ogden for a while and I enjoyed it. It was a good place I don't miss the rat race at all and I truly miss being 10 minutes away from Smith and Edwards. I'm hoping I never have to leave Idaho.

Tikkanut,

I can't tell if you are in Monticello, Torrey, Kanab, or if you live in Richfield and drive to all three! grin

we're far enough north of SLC to avoid most of the "city traffic".

and it is a great "hub" to outdoor activities. if you need to live in or near a city for work, you could do far worse than Ogden.

only real complaint I'd have is the cold air inversions in the winter.

And it is pretty impressive inversion, too. I remember a couple times coming to town from Big Cottonwood and literally submarining down into the goop.

Judging from the shadows, we must be looking West to the Henrys, which puts us around Beef Basin, or Elk Ridge/Bears Ears based on the Navajo Sandstone?

I grew up in sunset (just south of Ogden)- and whenever I go home to visit, we go to Smith and Edwards. My kids hate it.

Life long resident of Layton/Syracuse area. Used to spend a lot of time in Ogden. In the 60s and 70s it was where we had to go to do anything. In the 80s the outlying cities started growing and Ogden started dying. They have been trying to revitalize the city but they still have a long way to go. Economically it's probably a good time to be looking at Ogden.

Ogden is an old railroad town and has always had a somewhat "tough" reputation. The old 25th Street (2 Bit Street) was always a rougher part of town, now it's been cleaned up and kind of a yuppie hangout.

Hunting in the general area is a bit crowded. Plenty of waterfowl to hunt near the Great Salt Lake. Grouse and Chukar hunting within an hour's drive. Deer and Elk hunting is a bit crowded within an hour or so. If you ski you're within a 1/2 hour of some great ski areas, Snow Basin was the site of the 2002 Olympic downhill and they have really improved their facilities. Decent fishing in the area, you can fish the Ogden river for trout in the downtown area.

I should say it looks like South Ogden would be the location. It is still all up in the air right now. I don't have to move, so I only want to pursue it if it is a good place to live and raise my kids. I appreciate all the input, and welcome more.

If you move here, K1500, membership in the Gun nUTz is open - and your first breakfast is on me.
