I've read a few posts where the infamous T7 crud ring was noticed when using 209 primers, but not noticed with the use of #11 percussion caps. Is it possible this crud ring is due to hotter ignition?

Is this crud ring noticed both with the pellets and the loose powder?

Could the crud ring be caused by stouter loads like those used in inlines? I've never noticed anything in my stainless Ruger Old Army shooting as much as 45 grains of 3F. I don't clean it while at the range and I can easily spend hours on the pistol line, and have often made paper cartridges allowing me to shoot quite a bit.

Has anyone ever ignited successfully BH 209 with a duplex load in a side lock?

Is there a difference in the amount of smoke between T7 and BH 209?

Crud ring or not, it is fairly simple to clean! I use T7 and have no problem getting the barrel clean. I swab in between shots which really cuts down fouling and cleaning time. I use two water bottles full of hot water and dump it down the barrel from breech to muzzle. I use dry patches to dry the bore. I use a bristle chamber brush and scrub 10-15 times. I use another patch and it cleans it out. I then run Ballistol on patches to clean and coat the bore. I will also spray a little into the area where the crud ring forms and run a patch through. That is how I maintain the bore. I soak the breech plug in hot water while I am doing the maintenance to the bore. I use a hair dryer and needle to clean the breech plug. I then spray with Ballistol and wipe dry.

Too much blowback from BH 209 which would make it unsafe in a sidelock
