FreeMe,
Realistically, IF the 'feds and their cronies in the MIC ' were no longer able to wage war(s), stage insurrections, impose economic sanctions, meddle with the affairs of other sovereign nations, perhaps what many have been hyped up to believe is a threat to this nation and people would evaporate like the 99% BS hype that it is..

There are many nations around the world which have and do live peacefully, conduction their life as people and in safety who don't have trillions of dollars in offensive-defensive weapons or military.Neither do they meddle in the affairs of their neighbors for power or profit...and certainly not pre-emptively just because they covet something their neighbor has or because their neighbor sees things differently from them.

A simple question:
What was the last war America engaged in which was a result of a true & legitimate threat to our soil and people?

Not threats to the big businesses, world banking curencies, or balance of strategic power BS and lies which have been foisted on Americans for over a century.....jim

An attractive idea, but I'm wondering what would become of the political vaccum when the federal government loses the power (money) to wage war.

Well, that's one thing you don't have to worry about. A tax revolt would be one of the most ineffective kinds of revolts there possibly could be--less effective than one of those stupid "marches on Washington," but more counterproductive.

The US dollar is fiat money, which means that has no intrinsic value and that its only source is government counterfeiting. Counterfeiting increases inflation, which acts in the very same way as a tax except that it is completely unavoidable by anyone who uses US dollars in commerce. If the American people staged a tax revolt, the government would simply print more money. The people's bank accounts would contain the same number of dollars they had before, but the resulting inflation would decrease the aggregate value of those dollars; the people would lose the same amount of value they would have lost if they had paid the taxes in the first place, and the government would gain the same amount of value--with which it would buy whatever it would have bought with the tax money. But in the inflation scenario, the value would be subtracted from everything valued in US dollars, not just bank accounts.

No...if there is to be a meaningful tax revolt, then we must first mostly (or at least partially) move from a fiat currency to a currency backed by something other than vacuum, whose value cannot be inflated simply by a whim. Then a tax revolt could have some teeth; not before.

... how about Impeaching the President, Vice- President, all Cabinet officials, and the entire Congress of the United States for failing to uphold their oath to protect the nation from "all enemies, foreign and domestic."

I couln't agree more...they've done a terrible job of protecting the public from the repressive, socialist/liberal carrot-danglers and their zombies, the WORST domestic enemy in this nation ever! Call it "The Blue Plague"<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Apples/oranges. Most of these countries are small land masses, some logistically difficult to invade, lacking in resources, etc.

True, but some of those *would*, if they could - say - if their neighbor wasn't sufficiently armed.

You mean - if the Axis powers would be satisfied with only Europe and Asia? What was that I read about Germany instigating incursions from Mexico? Hmmmm. Seems we have plenty of political activity to encourage such invasions right now. I'll put forth the position that if we were not a military power, Mexico would have already invaded (again, more, whatever...), or would soon.

Besides the aspect of invasion - there's also the issue of security on the high seas. Before we were a "world power", we had no such security. This hurt the shipping companies first, yes, but it also hurt the entire American economy - thus, we had the War of 1812, among other things (let's see, what did that have to do with the Middle East, hmmm?).

Not arguing that all this doesn't go on - just pointing out the other side that you can't get away from (as in - either way, we're screwed).

Jim,
As usual your making too much sense. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />
The only thing I would do different is outlaw any Party affiliations and make People cast votes for Individuals instead of Supposed Ideals. The entire Political process in this country comes down to voting for the lesser of
"Two Evils".

This Country is going to have a very tough time recovering from what has happened to us in the last Six years and I'm not sure we will ever attain the status we once held in the World. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" />

I guess you're putting that long, mostly cold one against the Soviet Union in the category of useless, only benefitted the rich, blah blah blah. It's also the only reason you're not writing this in Russian.

Jim,

With all due respect, the current war IS being waged to protect our social and econimical way of life....that is unless you want to start riding horses again.

The reality is that the public cannot handle the real reasons for alot of things. thus, in order to maintain social order, the Politicians spin reality (one of the few real reasons we need the sorry SOBs).

And NO, it is not one part or the other, but both. Frankly if John Q. public really knew the reality of many issues...well, it just wouldn't be purty (TT).

For instance, the economic indicators put out by the Gov. are spun and messaged beyond belief. When you examine the reality behind the curtain, it really makes you shudder.... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" />

Anyone who believes that the current oil prices are tied directly to anything that the US government is doing are clearly not paying attention. The fact is that China *is* just now coming into the oil market (as a user) in a big way - and it will get bigger. Price will be determined by demand, and the demand is in the beginning stages of going through the roof. This is meuch bigger than us, and we are going to have to live with it...somehow. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />
