If Iwere in the market for one I'd buy the Magnum Research beforea Ruger 10/22WMR . It's a much better gun.
Ruger stopped making them for a reason.

I had one but sold it, the issue here is they have a fairly thin spectrum of what you can use them for, and they are pricey. Plus if you are going to blow 7-800 for a well taken care of Ruger 10/22 mag, you may want to go with a Volquartsen for 1,100 and have a really nice runner.

I thought about using mine for bobcat and coyote in woody lot areas, but ended up using a 223 AR platform and feeling better about it.

Just an added note - if you hunt Jack rabbits a 10/22 Magnum is frigg'n awesome.

The buggers take off right around 50 yards out, and are typically 80 yards by the time you get to shoot at them, a normal 22 and you get a shot, maybe two. A 22 Mag - DUDE !! you can see your hits around them for the next 50-100 yards.

I really like mine....no issues to speak of.
I have several barrel combinations for my switch gun grin
17 HMR heavy barrel(Clark),Factory 17 HMR with sights, 22 mag fluted Heavy & sporter barrels (Green Mountain)
Two after market Butler Creel stocks....one for a sporter barrel (yellow stock) and one for a heavy barrel (green stock)
Only mod's to the gun are a trigger job, after market mag release and a recoil buffer bolt stop installed....shoots .5" or better at 50 yards and 1" at 100 yard consistently .....most accurate barrel is the heavy barrel Clark 17 HMR, it will shoot .5" at 100 yards smile

Anyway for the right price ....I'd sell the works. Since moving to Oregon I have not had the opportunity to shoot gophers and prairie dogs like I did in Montana...currently it's one of my rimfire safe queens.

I have one and think it is a amazing rifle. I am a huge fan of the 22magnum.

I had a dual extractor model that functioned perfect from day one, it shot pretty good with hollow points. It really like the full metal jacket cci though.

I ended up selling that one because I was in a pinch and got a offer I couldn't refuse. I missed it so much that I have a standing offer to buy it back with the new owner.

I have since purchased another one to take its place. It is the single extractor model which suffered from the FTE problems that plagued them and ultimately led to the discontinuation of the 10/22magnum. I have replaced the extractor and it has been 100% reliable ever since. I love this gun.

I wouldn't buy a magnum research as they use a gas block so that you can't replace the barrels or stocks as with a standard ruger or Volquartsen.

So if you have the money for one, I would do it. If you take care of it you will always be able to get your money back if you don't fall head over heels for it.

Pretty sure that was a 77/22 not a 10/22. I have never seen a stainless 10/22magnum. Not saying that it never happened, but I would have to see it to believe it.

In my understanding.

When they first came out they had a single extractor. After they had some. One back with FTE problems they redesigned the bolt by adding a second extractor. That solved the problem but caused another. The second extractor was prone to breaking off and damaging the bolt. The fact that they simply cancelled the 10/22 mag over a $12 part leads me to believe that there might have been something else going on.

A simple solution was adding a Volquartsen exact edge extractor to the single extractor models. Or adding it to the dual extractor models and removing the inside one.

BTW Volquartsen does a run of tungsten bolts every so often. So if you can find a cheap magnum with a broken bolt for cheap. I would buy it and throw it in the closet.

You can read a whole lot more about this on rimfire central.

Remington makes a 597 in .22mag. I know your looking for a ruger but I don't think there are many problems with the 597. I have one in .22LR and love it. They have a factory bolt buffer and bolt holds open on the last shot. Collectability isn't gonna be nowhere neer what the ruger is. Just a thought if all you want is a shooter/beater.

I was unaware that Magnum Research made a semi auto .22 mag. Would like to add a semi to the mix as I never owned one before.
How do they shoot? Any feeding issues? Accurate? How about the trigger?

I have a CZ 512 .22 mag semi auto and it is extremely accurate and runs flawlessly. It did have a heavy trigger but a kid I know that is attending Gunsmithing school worked on it and the trigger is fairly decent now.
