I heard that Jerry Brown veto'ed a law further restricting semi-auto with detachable magazines. Is this true? Does it surprise others as much as it did me?

Nothing coming out of the Communist State of California would surprise me

Here's a link: Jerry Brown vetoes gun-control legislationEven Jerry Brown has limits that prevented him from signing some of the whacko gun control bills passed by California Democrats. Their plan appears to have been to pass laws restricting so-called assault weapons, and once that's in place, then pass laws defining more and more guns as assault weapons.

Yes, he vetoed that law. Along with many others. Signed a couple stupid ones too though.
My theory is that they'll introduce a large number of bills that are horrible, then veto most while passing the ones they really wanted. To make us think we won something while still taking something away. Seems to work.

California has a Democratic super majority! They don't need to ask, question, or even have the GOP present to vote a bill into law...
So far Brown has been able to hold the party to basically a centralist position... reason being he wants to be re-elected and push the high speed rail through.
He has two or three major projects that he feels he has to get accomplished while he is governor.
High Speed Rail. Port and Transportation Infrastructure. Sacramento Delta Water Project.

The communistnazi legislature passed a bill that bans ALL lead bullets of any kind to be used for hunting of any game, including upland game.
Moonbeam Brown signed it into law. AB711.
Guess what effect that will eventually have on many, many hunters and hunting.

Guess what effect that will eventually have on many, many hunters and hunting. Notwithstanding this is an idiotic bit of legislation, I say, "near zero". Please feel free to rebut.

I'll rebut that.
How many guys do you think will dove hunt when their shells cost as much as a box of sabot slugs? (~$15 for 5)

I'd say they'd probably just use Winchester Xpert steel target loads at $75 per case of 10 boxes of 25 shells.
Next?
