Earlier this week Rick Bin and I were able to finalize plans for the pack review I have been working on.

The review will be posted here, and only here in the articles section on the main page. I will be sending him the final draft with a publication date in early December.

Once published I will start another thread in the backpack hunting section where we can answer more questions about the review, and anything specific you want to see on the packs we still have.

Thanks for all of the patience as we have put this review together! I appreciate every request for when the review would be coming out and for wanting to read it!

Looking forward to it. I have used an Eberlestock J104 the last few years and it has proven exceptionally capable and versatile at hauling camp in and out of the mountains and elk out of the mountains. Would be interested in something lighter, but equally versatile.

Where is the articles section? A forum section or the editors list?

I think he might be referring to the home or backpacking page at the very top of the website but I could be wrong.

That's ok, I'll ass shoot a dink.

Yup, the articles are posted on the home page. The current article is the wind flag, there are a few good ones there.

Cool beans. Looks like it will come out just in time to get myself a new pack for a Christmas present.

I can pretty confidently say that any of the 4 packs we reviewed will be just as versatile, if not more. They all have load shelf/hauling capability, and more shoulder lift than the J104.

Have you stated somewhere which the four packs are?

Thanks. The Paradox is tugging at me hard. I am looking to get my DIY elk load as light as possible and retain the capability to haul an elk out with as much comfort as possible (a relative thing of course) and be relatively weather proof. I can get it all in my Eberlestock J104 just fine, and even on the X2 with some creativity.

At 5'8" I wonder if some of these packs are too tall? Are any of your testers under 6'0"? Looking forward to your reviews.

Add some meat, antlers and a rifle.

Thanks for your patience guys, it really is appreciated. I really hope the information, and any discussions we have afterwards about all of the packs can help many hunters make the right choice on a high end pack.

PRM, I just caught your questions. Namack is 6'1", so a little over, but not much. The Paradox will by far have the tallest height, but you can remove the extensions if so desired. Kifaru offers the Bikini in 24" so you could avoid having a frame you feel is too tall there as well. The MR is the same length regardless, I don't remember the length off hand, but it isn't as long as the others. The SG is tall, but it's easily adjustable to make it fit. All that so say, it shouldn't really be a concern with any of the packs, imo, there are ways to get each pack height under control.
