What do you think of a 1 in 11 twist for up to 180 grain bullets?

Were you concerned it might not be a quick enough twist?

I put a Lilja 3 groove 1-11" twist on my wife's 300 WSM and it love's 180 gr bullets, 3 different brands to be exact, you'll be happy with a 1-11".

11 should be good for at least up to 210 grainers. And non-LR bullets up to 220 grains.

I thought 1 in 11 may be too slow. Lilja website recommended 1 in 10 for 180's.

I have several 1 in 12" 308's that shoot 180 gr. Sierra boat tails very well, and Berger says 11" is good for their pointy 210 grain bullets.

I think 1-8's eliminate turd bullets.... This....never saw the sense in an 11 twist.Ordering today, I'd get a 9 twist.BTDT.
The 280 Remington is overbore.
The 7 Rem Mag is over bore.

Here is a Link: scroll down and you can see my gun and a target I posted. This load was with the Nosler 200 grain Partitions. I chose this barrel and twist from a recommendation from a good friend.

I should have said, I also have a custom 300 Win. Mag. with a 1~10 inch twist. This gun also shoots just fine.
Wish you luck.

My 300 Win Mag has a 12 twist. I shoot 180s in it. My Grandson's 30BR hunting rifle has a 16 twist and shoots 130 grain bullets. Never tried larger ones.

10" has long been my preferred 30cal twist rate,though I've 11 and 12's too.
In fairness however,a 20" SAAMI 308Win spun 12",will easily stabilize 180's.

A 1 in 12 twist will stabilize any bullet you are likely to want to shoot in a 300 but a ten will work fine and there is no real reason not to go with it. In recent years there seems to be a real tendency to hair split when it comes to barrel twist rates. I think this indicative of a person not having enough to occupy his mind so he obsesses over twist rate. I would not be surprised to see a thread debating the advantages of an eleven over a ten and a half. I have shot 190 matchkings through a 13 twist and they worked fine. I have shoot 155 Lapuas through a fourteen and they worked fine. I have fired 125 Speers through a twelve twist and they worked fine. Ultimately, the old rule of just being sure to have enough twist is a good one. This is why, if I am building myself a 30 cal hunting rifle, I generally use a ten. GD
