Im in the market for a encore, i had a regular encore when they first came out and shot lots of deer with it. Now that ive been shopping around ive got to ask whats the big diffrence in the plain encore vs prohunter and is the prohunter worth the addef cost? Thanks

The only differences are the new cosmetic marks on the receiver, i.e., like the words Pro Hunter) and the swing hammer. I don't think they're worth the added cost but then I've never had problems cocking a scoped Encore with the regular hammer either.

Grumulkin is right swing hammer and price, i found the swing hammer more difficult to use than the regular hammer. go buy yourself a 10$ hammer extension.

I've got an encore. I have a extention. Works great. Once ever few years it works a little loose ,I just retighten it. Although I prefer my other rifles over it I enjoy using it and carry it almost every weekend on my atv hunting in florida. Usually in its pistol form.
Life can be rough on us dreamers.

Everyone has pretty much covered it. I will say that I was told by some TC specific 'smith's that the swing hammer is a bit stouter made than the regular hammer and is less likely to bend or break when using hammer extensions. Now, I know this could be a head scratcher, but the swing hammer 'feel' when angled, sucks to me, so I use an extension on the stronger swing hammer. You can have the swing added to a reg encore, by TC for $. Since I could buy the pro for about the same $ as a reg (on my last one), I went ahead and got the pro hunter version. Just some nits to pic.

I found a plain encore locally with a 7-08 & 50cal ml barrel and grabbed it. I dont really need another blackpowder gun at this this time and am planning on either selling the barrel to recoup some funds or tradeing it towards another centerfire barrel, its blued with synthetic forearm and rings/bases whats a fair asking price for the barrel?

I used a steel hammer extension on my Walnut/Blue Standard Encore .50 ML for about 10 years and several hundred shots with no problem. Then I read somewhere that the steel extension was bad because the weight caused hammer breakage, so I changed to an aluminum one. Still no problems, but I feel better.
