Best photo of a Harris Hawk that I have seen! Nice work. (All of my Harris Hawk photos from south Texas have cloudy skies in the background.)

Wow, really cool shot. It looks like you caught this looking into the light? Great detail for those conditions!

A great photo -- and clearly taken with a VERY good lens to boot!

Very cool sir, I found you..:) The first shots I got a of a harris hawk was "by accident". I was out driving on a ranch and saw a badger cross the road in front of me. He was sniffing the ground and ran down a rabbit hole. I cut off my truck from a distance away hoping to catch him coming back out of the hole with dinner. Well, as soon as I turned off the truck, grabbed the lens and stood in the door jam ready to shoot, I noticed a Harris Hawk land in the tree above the hole that the badger went into. Then another Harris Hawk landed in the same tree. Well, the badger emerged from the hole and walked a few yards and went down another. Guess what; the Harris Hawks followed him. Well this time, a big pack rat came running out of the hole near the hole the badger had went into. One of the Hawks Immediately swooped down and made the kill. within 3 seconds, the badger came ragin out of the hole right towards the harris hawk, who flew away with the rat. It was comical watching the look on the badgers face looking up at the hawk like, "You SOB, that was my rat!" They were too far away from me for a good shot. I got one but it wasn't good enough to post. This was one of the hawks following the badger: Original: http://farm5.staticflickr.com/4065/4491079481_53eb2a4f6a_o.jpgVery cool Birds...just like flying wolves..

Very nice shots.
I'm trying to decide if I'm going to try to get the 400 5.6 next or a 300 f4 w/ the 1.4x. I had the 300 and extender before, and that is a REAL versatile setup and still very sharp even with the extender on it. I loved it and I kick myself in the nads everytime I think about selling that thing.

I was under the same conundrum when I got the 400MM. I REALLY like the 300mm with the IS but what sold me was that I am rarely too close to birds or game 98% I'm not close enough. So I went with the 400mm I have the 70-200mm so I'm only missing the one "gap" I haven't missed it. I was also considering the 100-400 and rented one. I found that while I was out shooting, I used it pretty much all the time at the 400mm end so that made my decision. All this being said, I wish I had the money to have the 300mm too It's an awesome lens. Now if I could only figure out how to save for the 500mm f/4 IS II
