Been in my Red Wings for almost two years now. I'm sold. Twice the price of what I was wearing, but I've gotten twice the service out of them by far.

Indeed, who sells them around here Matt?

My son is in the electrical apprentice program. Someone passed out some 20% off coupons for Redwing work boots in his class a couple of months back. Turns out he needed boot anyway and he bought a pair. Neither he nor I am impressed. Not bad boots, certainly better than typical boots, but overpriced and over rated. He has been wearing Keens for the last 2 years and feels they are a much better boot. USA made too, at least the safety toe work boots are.

I've worn Danners, Lowas, Asolos, as well as several better made hikers that I felt were better boots at about the same price.

Without knowing what you are going to wear them for it is hard to say.

I like Thorogoods. They've been great boots for me. I like the made in USA aspect (union or not union, American made so doesn't really matter to me) and mine have held up well to daily construction site wear. Plus the've been comfortable. They pretty much cost the same as china made [bleep] big name brands. I only have experience with their steel toe work boots but they make several styles that might be more in line with what you're looking for. They're definitely worth checking out.

JMR: Just a cushy job at a desk. I need boots with support for my heel; cost is not an object. Also, insole must be removable, as to allow for orthotics.

Also, FYI don't [bleep] up your feet. Laffin'

Thorogoods, Whites, Redwings and Justins have been a consistent pick.

We have strayed on this thread from the OP who described "boots with khaki trousers'..........which makes no sense whatsoever.

I always used to use Redwings........they never fell apart and would last for 2-3 years.........until the footbeds were lousy and non-existent. Then my feet hurt like hell.....with older age.

Then I switched to Kenetreks.............which are TERRIFIC!! They fit right away with no break in necessary! Expensive but worth it.

I just simply replace them instead of sending them back to be resoled. My daily 3 mile walks are done in their Hardscrabble Hikers.

Perhaps my point is lost on you; boots that feign business casual or better. Laffin'

Typical shoes don't have enough support in the ankle or heel for my preferences. Boots are the preferred vehicle; ankle high or 5" can pretend as typical 'work' shoes, given an appropriate trouser length.

Striaght laffin! If I would have known 'khaki's and trousers' would have produced such a ruckus I would have performed earlier. (grin)

Sheet George,

Ya got nothin' lost on me, partner.

I wear my Kenetreks and another pair of ankle-high Redwings at my office JUST-AS-MUCH-AS-I-CAN while everyone asked themselves "WTF"?

I get the same lousy pay raise and non-promotion regardless.

Don't wear Dockers......either.

Whites or WESCO's both quality boots, as good as it gets, have had some from both companies. The WESCO;s were custom built. Redwings are OK just not the quality or as well a built boot as the other two, have worn out three pair I think. Danner Arcadia's may be ok, never had a pair, but their loggers are not what they once were, I have bought my last pair if them, have had three. Fact is the White Company boots I own now will probably be replaced with the same, if I ever wear them out. They do take time to break in, but once they do, you have some good shoes on your feet.

Edit; side note here, I have a pair of "packer" style 10" boots I paid two bucks for at a yard sale, almost new. I have had guys ask me if they are White's, although they are not quite the quality of a White boot, I do wish I knew what they were, there is not tag or name of any kind on them, but I sure would buy another pair.

O boy boots are a serious subjuct, like shot size debates or deer rounds. The longest lasting boot I have found has been Chippewa boots. They aren't comfortable at first but the don't wear out they wear in. I wear a 11 4E so boots are hard for me to find cause my foot is so wide. I tried red wings, while they were ok quality boots their widest boot wasn't wide at all and was horribly uncomfortable. My current boots are ariat boots and I'm noot really impressed with them. I have had them for six months and the foot bed is flat worn out. Everbody at work seems to like danner boots.

If that's what you're looking then put on a pair of Mephistos. They're not cheap and made in France but they sure feel just right on your feet.

I have some made in USA Redwing loggers about 10-12 years old. Once they broke in they were hard to beat. I used them for brush fires. I broke my foot on a dirt bike and that left my foot kinda deformed and I can't get my foot in. I really liked those boots. I then got the White Hathorn which is the on shelf boot. I think the construction may be better on the Hathorn but the fit and comfort, the Redwing was better for my foot.

heres my well worn 2yr old Thorogoods roughly 4300working hours on these boots, on concrete/gravel/dirt/mud/steel. I brush them off and keep them oiled and thats really about it. just thought they might help some fellers that dont like looking at stock photos.
