The .270 shows that it was fielded, and it now wears a well-used, but not abused, Leupold Mountaineer 4X:



The 1949 .257 Roberts has a 1949 Weaver K2.5 with solid Weaver rings:



The .243 is in like new condition, and a like new Mountaineer is on the way!

I went with a modern scope, it was hard to find mounts in stock, wound up with Leupold QR's. Mine was stock, a '55 300H&H never had a scope mounted before, it was willed to me. Wanted to keep the iron sites intact, it was hard to find a scope that would allow that. Picked a Zeiss conquest 3X9X40, just cleared the rear sight.

That .270Fwt., this is one of my all-time 4-5 favourite production hunting rifles, had a genuine Biesen-modded one in my youth and have three now, has one of the two nicest pieces of "timber" I have ever seen on a P-64-70. The other is the stock for the first of five "Alaskans" in .338WM, I have had and this is my most treasured rifle, far more than my costly, Martini-customized Dakota 76-.338WM or any of my other rifles.

I would LOVE to own those and I have some FINE ones left as I sell my guns due to advancing age, health and all the usual things. I would have loved to get the .338 above and that specific .270, as a pair.....best combo for BC hunting anyway!

Scopes, I HAVE done "period", but, I am a USER, not a "collector", and thus mount the best, most up to date optics I can on my rifles. I like Swaro Z3-3x9s and Leupy 2.5x8 VX3s on my .270s and also run Zeiss Conquest 3x9s, excellent for me, but, a tad heavy for old guys in steep mountains.

Anyway, VERY nice group and I hope you can find more!

Here is a nice way to scope Pre-64 model 70's. The German Zeiss Diavari 3-9X36 is not overpowering, and suits the traditional look of the rifle with fantastic optics. All low comb guns: 257 Roberts, 270 Winchester, Pre-war 22 hornet. The last picture is a 1950 30-06 with it's original Stith Bearcub...

Nice practical optics, but they probably wouldn't work for me.

Just from the pics and me being a runt, I would probably need them back more than the tube allows. Especially with some heavy clothes.

My prewar .257 Roberts and '52 vintage .35 Whelen rebore both wear Leupold Vari-X II 2-7X. The Roberts in Redfield mount and the Whelen a Griffin & Howe. Never had a problem with a Leupold in 40yrs. hunting use.
