Last weekend I went down to South Texas on a 7,000 Ac Ranch and smoked a 160 class whitetail at 585 yards with my custom built 300 win mag. The Ranch was MLDP 3 so the season started early. Super excited. Here is the link to the video. Its best in HD. http://youtu.be/YdKBgOPUFW0

Great buck and shot!
Was neat to see the buckfight continue even after he dropped.
What was the bullet used?
Also - right when you shoot and the deer (except for the 2 fighting) take off - there appears to be a dandy buck take off across the road - left to right. Did you get a good look at him prior? How big was he?

I was shooting a custom 300 Win mag that I built and the hornaday 165 Gr SST, they gun will shoot them sum 1/4 MOA. The bucks actually got locked up and it took them a bit after we turned off the camera to finally get free. The buck that crosses the road is a nice one for the future. We run lots of cameras and we think he is only 4 but he will be nice in the future, we nick named him smoke stack because of his height.

Yeah - just in the brief seconds he shot across the road you immediately think "I need to see this deer some more".

Nice shooting, you certainly hit him well, dropping him on the spot. I couldn't help but notice what I think was a pig running around down the road below the deer, sort of comical.

Hell of a hunter, I guess.
Good shot, for sure.
Good gun, no doubt.
Depressing, somewhat.

Good shot and I'd say there is plenty of hunting involved. They got enough cameras out to name bucks and shoot mature deer, just so happens he can shoot that far.

Why such a light bullet in a 300 mag? Especially for long shots? 300 mag is realm of the 190-210 grain bullets if you want to take long pokes.
Of course you have to forgive me as I have a deep background in long shots from competition, and woudl not be caught dead in wind trying to make a light bullet work when there are mcuh better choices.
This may sound derogatory, but I'm actually very interested in WHY you made that bullet choice?
Also, what is the creep in your trigger that you describe? Shooting a 2 stage possibly?
I ran a lot of 300 mag stuff for years and all the light bullets were just explosive ones that made big holes, and drifted in the wind more than the higher BC ones.
Nice shot and nice buck!
Jeff

Park the truck, get out and lay on the ground. Take a 600 yd shot when you had plenty of cover to get closer.
Sorry, but I saw no hunting.
Money can't buy you happiness, but it can buy you a hunting license and that's pretty close.

This makes me sad. If this was what "hunting" was, I wouldn't hunt. Fortunately, it isn't.
