Got it yesterday,
Been looking at it at the LGS for a while, couldn't stand it any longer.

Me and my two sons put 200 rounds through it with no problems,at my 35 yard pistol range.
Put an eotech holosight on it and will move back to 100 soon.

I actually bought it for an open sight close quarters weapon,I've got the long range AR thing covered pretty well.
I really like it so far, just what I was hoping for.

Let me know how it shoots at 100. A buddy got one 2 years ago or so, and it was not impressive at 100, around 4-5 inch groups at 100.

Thinking a lot of that is the needless piston they put in them that is all the rage now, but be nice to know if yours is better and his is a fluke.

Any reason you'd buy it over a DI AR?

If asking me, I see NO need for a piston. The DI is totally reliable when built correectly.

My Ruger SR 556 cleans up a lot easier and faster than my Spikes Tactical does.

I never clean my DI guns, just wipe off the bolt/BCG, squirt some slip2000 on it go shoot some more.

I know of more than a few competitors, running the life of the barrel out, by only doing what Jimmyp has done. Life of some barrels can extend to 10,000 rounds, but generally is give or take 5000.

Cleaning a DI gun is not a big deal.

One of the reasons I bought the Ruger AR was the ease of cleaning. Just about every part is hard chromed.

As for the accuracy, I put an Aimpoint on it and zeroed it for 50 yards, same as the sights. Using Nato 62 grain ball. If I take my time and don't crunch the trigger its hitting in an inch and a half. Figure if I ever need it for the Zombie hordes I'll be shooting the length of the driveway...

I would put a Geisselle SSA-E in it for sure.

62 grain bullets FMJ are one of the most accurate FMJ bullets I've seen. Good ones consistently in a good rifle can shoot on the order of an inch at 100.

The piston guns just still don't impress me. And the hypocrisy of a ruger AR is still there for me personally.

I'll give it this though, my buddy has shot a few pigs and such and is flat happy with his, and thats all that matters.

M855 (green-tip)? Accurate? Are you serious? The spec on that [bleep] is 3.5moa. Most of it will do two though.

I never said ball ammo, the bullets themselves, loaded into cases with the proper powder, don't show nearly as many fliers as the 55s do.

Factory ball I never consider to be any better than 2moa at 100. THats on a good day.

Are you talking pulled M855 bullets or some factory 62gr bullet? FMJ's can never be as accurate as a hollow-point, as I'm sure you know.

Never said FMJs were or could be as accurate, but surplused bulk 62s have been much more consistent than 55s.

hollow points can scare quarter inch at 100 yards out of an AR15 as I'm sure you know. And I've shot groups at 600 wiht HPs out of an AR under 1.5 inches for 5 shot groups.

An FMJ will never do that.

But the 62s are closer to a true MOA bullet than any other FMJ I've shot. I have not loaded them in years, and don't recall if it was our surplused or IMI maybe suprlused 62s. I basically called a guy a liar and he gave me 22 rounds to fire in a rapid fire match, after that I went and bought probably 10,000 or so at the time, for strictly practice ammo. I don't think I have a single round of it left though.

They may suck today, But in the early 2000s they did not.

Jeff FYI,
Last weekend I finally got to try it for accuracy, sorta.
I slapped on a Meopta Meostar R-1 3-12 X 56 in a LaRue quick release mount.

Loaded a magazine full of Fiocchi Exacta 69 grain sierra Matchkings.

I couldn't help myself,I put 20 rounds into a 1 7/8 group @ 100 yards.
I felt like it was okay as the wind was whipping pretty good and I shot the group in about 30 seconds.

I'm pretty pleased and will keep it.
I could probably get better groups if I slowed doun and went to 5 shots.
Mike
