Ok not so sure I'm doing this correctly or in the right place. I have a model 99 that belonged to my grandfather and I have been wondering since my dad gave it to me how old it is and what it may be worth(no amount of money will buy it). Any help will be greatly appreciated.
All of you make strong cases for an updated Model 99. My dream gun would be offered in 3 calibers. short action, 22-250,250 savage,284 for heavier game. Brass rotor, 20" barrel, walnut stock w/cheek piece, snobele fore-end, take-down. stainless steel fluted barrel, stainless receiver, fiddle back walnut stocks.I know the 3 calibers were all available at 1 time but not pre-1960 quality.Personal opinion,99 needs to be short action! With that said though for heavy duty action 35 Whelen.Dream on!!

I am in search of answers I just became the owner of an 1899 savage carbine that was fully restored by Savage in the early 70s adn has not been fired since. I was taking the stock off to give the action a cleaning and reoiling when I noticed a threaded hole in the action area. And my question am I missing a screw if what what is the purpose of this threaded hole. Photo attached.
I am new to this site...I have what I believe is a 1899B by ser. no. manufactured in 1905. 26" oct bbl, 25-35, perch stock. it was my grandfather's who passed away 55 yrs. ago and just came into my possession. it has been stored in dry clean conditions and shows normal but little wear. any idea of the value? I am not selling only insuring...thanks
Welcome. How about some pics aye? At auction recently I've 1899B's ball park $1400 +/- $250 based on condition. Your caliber is a plus 10%. Rather than insure, put in your safe or mine.
Indeed. That is a sweetheart. If that was my Gramp's gun, I'd keep it forever. And I got some. The first generation 1899 lines, octagonal barrel, perch belly, crest butt, I just love 'em.
I would like it in 303 and 356 Winchester so we would have rimmed case for rotor mag. I love that 35 cal. it puts the whomp on game that needs a big womping.
