The .358's definitely under-appreciated, for sure. Any member of the .308 family tends to be pretty accurate, and a good 35 caliber bullet's ability on game is outstanding, too.
Mine, a Shaw barreled M700, loves 200 Hornady Spire Points and 4895.
Enjoy!!

I have the same rifle. 49 grains of IMR-3031, Win brass, WLR primers and a 200 grain interlock hits 2,660. Accuracy is good but not great. It has proven very effective on game.

I had the same rifle for a while and it shot very well. The only reason I sold it was the Savage 99F I inherited from my primary hunting mentor--which also shoots well.

The .358 with the right load is at least 100 yards more than a 200-yard cartridge.

Thanks John Here in NEPA. Rarely are shots much over 200. Unless you specifically set up for them. I just really like the handling of this rifle. And have always had an itch for a 35 caliber

I have a M77 Ruger tang safety that's has a club for a stock, but is a joy to shoot and shoots very well. I have been shooting the Nosler 225 Part. it hits like a Ford pick-up! It's top with a old Weaver K4 television scope I just love. Loaded some Barnes 200 gr. SP with BLc2 they shoot great too! Love mine, I'm sure you'll like that new Ruger too.

Mine's a stainless Hawkeye, 2.5-8x Conquest, dropped in a McSwirley. Other rifles have taken precedence over it, but I'll get to it one of these days.

You NEED to bust a Tennessee pig with that new rifle Gitem, 52 gr of H-322 gives me 2700 fps with a 200 gr TSX and excellent accuracy with the exact same rifle, I happen to use a 2-7 Leupold in a set of cerakoted Ruger rings on mine as well. wink

Your gonna love that handy little hammer.

Don't worry about the high Ruger rings. They make it easy to work the bolt with the rifle shouldered without 'barking' your knuckles. Enjoy, I intend to put together a 20" barreled .358 mauser in a mannlicher stock one of these days.

You need a .358 Norma mag instead of a "puny" .358 Winchester. Something like this one. grin
