I am a proud member of the NRA, but...what the hell is with all the junk mail and spam I get from them?

And I must get one piece of junk mail from them a week. Recently I had a DVD sent to me, and I had to send it back or get charged to be in their new video club!

And they send me a spam email a few times a week.

I wish they would just spend my money on things that matter, instead of wasting it on junk mail begging for more money!

The NRA is not perfect but it is easier to make it better FROM THE INSIDE rather than quitting. JMHO Every presidential election year I look at the guns I have not used since the last election, sell them and write checks to good organizations doing good work. Bill

I also don't belong to the NRA largely because of the junkmail/begging for money crap, and I think the whole premise of their existance is fake............

I am not giving up my rights whether a bunch of Liberals pass a new law or not, there is simply no reason to listen to the people who want to take away private gun ownership...ever.

Both sides of the debate are being milked by the proffessionals.

Is it really that hard to toss something in the trash or hit the delete key? If you know of a better organization that stands up for gun rights and has as much clout 'fess up. Every organization I belong to seems to send me what could be considered junk. As for the DVD, it's considered "unsolicted merchandise" and you could legally keep it for free if you wanted to.

I think they are needed to file lawsuits etc, but I would rather they run it like the RMEF. Take my money, send me a magazine, and leave me alone. But...their magazine sucks, unlike Bugle.

I can't abide Democrats crapping all over their opponents in order to make themselves look better. Unfortunately, I don't see MUCH difference with the NRA....

I have heard rumors,(and believed them) that RMEF supported the reintroduction of wolves into the lower 48, that would put RMEF into the cull pile for me.............

The RMEF did not support it, they just wouldn't take a stand against it. Still sucks though.

i figure i do more with my public attitude with friend and acquaintances about firearms ownership than the nra could do ever do. i have made in-roads with anti-gun people simply by telling them i am NOT an nra member yet am steadfastly supportive of the second amendment.
i despise fear-mongering, no matter who is doing the fear-mongering.

I know what you mean, they do send a lot of letters requesting money, but it's for a legit cause. (imho) Yeah, some of the letters are pretty glossy, and I wonder how much they cost to send.. but how can you resist a personal card from Chris W. Cox?
If you don't want emails, I guess just don't give them your email address.

I was a bit disapointed that the watch they sent me stopped working after a year ( it wasn't the battery) I guess that means the times up to send more $$ .

Doggoneit fish 280 you hit it dead on.

One of the best endorsements I herd for the NRA was after the defeat of Clinton. DNC publicly blamed the NRA for a large part of the vote.
this was on NPR, so as a source on that statement it could be believed.

I wanted to up my membership level, but recent direction of the NRA (read that La Pierre) is exactly what you said scare mongering.

Since the NRA isn't going to constantly change it's url it can easily be blocked with the rules option of outlook explorer, if that's what you are using.
I get their e-mails but I also get tonnes of spam, about 75 spams a day, I actually read the NRA-ILA ones because at least it's something I signed up for.

I also got tired of the NRA mailing me about twice a week.
There was always an emergency that needed my cash. There were also phone calls of recorded messages from Wayne.
I considered being a NRA member more of a pain than it is worth.
Unfortunately, I believe The Clinton administration and mr brady did more for the value of my guns than anyone else

I agree 100%. I've gotten junk mail that says "overnight" on it from the NRA, and it is sent "bulk rate". Makes you wonder - if they are "misleading" about that....what else?

Nonetheless, I still support them with my dues, because they are the only viable alternative we have these days for keeping our gun rights.

I do wish however, they'd spend more money defending the 2nd amendment, and less money fundraising among the choir. From the postage for the stuff they send me, it must eat up half my dues.

I couldn't agree more with those who say that all of the mailings are a big turn-off when it comes to the NRA.

I was a member for a while and then let my membership lapse.

Recently I've recieved two different calls from them asking me to come back. I've told them that I wasn't ready to make a decision right then, but if they would mail me something I would consider it. (Imagine that, I actually ASKED for the NRA to mail me something!)

You won't believe their response. They told me it was too expensive to just mail stuff out to people, and that I would have to sign up.

I blew up on the phone. "ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!? In the past I'm getting mail nearly weekly telling me it's almost time to renew when I've got 10 months left on my membership or asking for money for this or for that. I make multipe requests to no availe asking that you not send me all this mail. And now that I actually want something in the mail from you IT'S TOO EXPENSIVE!?!? Does it really cost less to mail weekly money requests to members than it costs to send a one-time membership information packet?"

This lady had no response. Just that it was too expensive and they wouldn't send me any information.

She cured me of considering renewing again immediately.

I like the concept. I understand the thoughts of those who say this is really the only organization going right now and that I have to take the good with the bad. But I just can't bring myself to sign up right now.

I am a Benefactor member of the NRA and I felt the same way. Dr. Ken Howell enlightened me about this a couple of years ago. Even though it costs a lot of money to send out the mailings every few days, the contributions they will take in exceed by far the cost of the junk mailings.

I don't like it either but if you think about it, it is a good way to bring in lots of revenue.

We can either quit the NRA or live with it. I was always taught not to waste a thing and I know it's hard to tolerate this method but, IT DOES WORK.

I love my freedom and my guns enough that I don't have a problem with it because the NRA is the best thing we have going.

Now, I'm ready for the flames.

Thank you...Bill.

If they stopped raising funds, people would forget about them, simple as that.. You have to keep your face in the public eye in order to get action.

The NRA has faults like any other organization, but they still carry the biggest stick on Capitol Hill when it comes to firearms. I just chuck most of their mail, but I read the NRA Grassroots alerts and I DO keep in contact with my reps re: the Second Amendment. Like 'em or not, they scare the hell out of the Dems..

That alone is worth the price of admission. BTW, I'm a life member and proud of it. I'll be in Milwaukee for the NRA convention and wouldn't mind seeing a few of our members here at the site..

Last time I was at the convention was when it was in St. Louis, about 5 years ago.. Couple of the Para team members were there with a little demonstration... YOWZA... Those boys can draw and shoot..

It was a ball. You'll meet some true believers there.. And another fun thing is baiting the protesters that invariably show up.. What sport!..

I will always be a member, as I believe that the dems are scared of the NRA, and the NRA puts up a good fight. I would just rather them focus their energy and my money on the fight instead of the junk mail. I never respond to their mail because I figure they will just use the money to send more mail, LOL.

For those of you that aren't members...what other organizations do you know of that are active in filing suits etc to defend your gun rights? At least the NRA has the organization and know how to file suits like they did on behalf of those in Kalifornia that had their gun rights stripped in San Fran.

And you guys can say you don't like scare tactics, but that is how the dems pass all their gun bills, by telling mothers their kids are going to shoot each other thanks to the NRA.

Dogcatcher, you saved me a lot of typing.

We can pizz and moan about the solicitations, (and I do). But for what little money they get from us individuals for our membership and contributions, I think it's the best money I spend all year.

Especially right around April 15th
