Seems like we should have discussed this by now. Which one(s) of those safe queens are you guys taking out to the deer woods this November? Me, I'm taking two guns to deer camp this year: a 1930s 99H barrel band carbine in .303 with a Weaver K3 and a Stith mount, and a 1950s Featherweight in .300 Savage with an old Leupold 3X with a German three post reticle. . Is that a Marbles knife I see stuck in the middle ? Rod

I'm goin' out on a limb this year and taking a 308 F as my prim- ary rifle with a 20 mm Leupold 1.5 to 5 scope. I haven't decided on my back up. I should probably take my BB 30-30 H since I see deer pretty often with an opensighted rifle. Unfortunately I can't seem to hit anything with them. Not the rifles fault tho.

Yup, that's my old Marble's Woodcraft. I like to support the Michigan economy (of the 1930s).

Eeny, meeny, miny, moe which 250-3000 will go. Top one actually. My focus this year is to get my 17 year old son into as much big game action as possible so I'll be playing "second string" as the designated coyote shooter when we're deer and elk hunting this season. That particular 250-3000 been the demise of many a coyote.

I'll be taking a 99G in .300 as my main rifle, an R in .300 as my backup in case something goes wrong with the G and a Remington 760 in .300 Savage as a loner in case someone needs it. Wouldn't trust anyone else in the group with one of my 99s thus the 760.

The 1899 B is first in line, and the EG in 250 wearing a stith is my back up. (subject to change) When you have multiple 99s, its totture to decide what to take. Glad I only have 7 to choose from or I'ld go nuts.

Taking the 3rd from the top back home to do some hunting. Headed up to Pennsylvania for the first time in about 20 years. This gun belonged to my grandfather and was passed to my dad and then to me. It has not drawn blood since my grandfather owned it. My dad didn't hunt and I haven't used it to hunt yet. When I decided to return to PA to hunt this year it was the natural choice of weapon. It is a 99K.

Taking a 99E, circa 1924, with a Lyman All American 4X with P/C in 250-3000 and a 99F in 308 Win, circa 1955, with a Unertl 4X, fine crosshair. If I take a 3rd rifle, it would be an 1899H takedown, open sights, in 303 Sav, circa 1913.

.22HP 1899H primarily, 1899H .303 as backup. My old high school buddy, who at the tender age of 60 has never hunted, is joining me. I told him it's never too late. (But it might be with me teaching him the ropes!) The rifle I'm loaning him? M1920 .300 Savage. (And all three have aperture rear sights, no scopes.)

Ole grandpa tubby #7 in 303C for stand hunting. Pregnant 250/3000 wearing checked pads & engraved receiver for my walking gun. Might take the kid F 284 out so he wont feel abused. Maybe not, as he abused me when I sighted him in. GW

Not sure which one is going out... Since I'm down to 12 days, guess I'd better make the decision fast. Probably a first year 110 in 243 for my oldest loaded with 95gr Partitions, and the old EG in 300 for me. Not sure which one will play backup, though I'm thinking a 30's 99R in 300.

I'm gonna mess up this entire thread with some modern plastic savages. I'm gonna alternate between:
1. Mod 16 WW in .250 sav 2. Mod 16 WW in .300 sav 3. Mod 11 HH in .223 rem 4. Mod 10 PC in .308 win
The .250 is flinging Speer 87 HC's propelled by H4895.
The .300 is flinging 168's propelled by H4895.
The .223 is flinging Nosler bonded 64's propelled by Vargit.
The .308 is flinging 168's propelled by H4895.
All 4 rifles are averaging under 1" at 100 for 5 shots. In fact, the groups from all the rifles look so similar to me that it makes me think that the shooter is the limiting factor. In any case ... good enough for government work

Wow, look at that front sight! What's the story? That is the EG project gun I found in perfect condition - except,,, the receiver was butchered from at least 2 gooned up side scope mount attempts. While I was at it I fired up the Logan 400 & lopped 4" off the barrel, crowned the muzzle, & stuck a Masterpiece banded front sight on it - mainly because it was a fairly easy install, but also because it looks pretty damn cool, you gotta admit. Before: After, with a Duracoat finish, wearing a Weaver K-4 on a Lightfoot mount:
