I've decided to listen to the monkeys on this board and give a high speed, fast twist 22 another run.

I have a squared remington 700 that gretan bushed the bolt on, a jewel trigger, a new mcmillan A3 and a Bartlein 1-8 twist 224 blank.

I have 200 new lapua 22-250 cases and a set of redding competition dies in both 22-250 and 22-250 ackley. Pops has a reamer for both of these and also 22br, 22 CHeetah 28 degree shoulder, 220 swift and 22-284.

Goal for the rifle is to shoot squirrels and coyotes and targets out to 6-700 yrds.

Tentative plan is to go with the 22-250 ackley but I am interested in your opinions. Since I live in CA I plan to experiment with some of the longer non leaded bullets but I will also shoot some of the other longer match bullets too.

If you have pics and stories of your set up please feel free to share them.

Squirrels to 700 yards??!! I think you should focus on phenomenal optics.

Just need something that shoots sub-MOS ("minute-of-squirrel") . . . smirk

I would go 22-250AI because when the throat was eaten up, you could just run the 22 Cheetah or 22-243 reamer in there and be back into nice fresh lands and grooves at the throat again. then, when that one was wearing out, run it out to 6mmAI and shoot it some MORE. One barrel, many lives, and none of the rounds 'slow' by any stretch.

No bad choice among the pile, though. I have a good Nightforce scope I can sell you if you don't have one yet. There is no real second choice if small targets at ranges of over 500 yards are the goal.

I had a 22-243win for awhile with a shilen 1-8" twist. RL 22 and fed210gm gave me 3617fps and very accurate with the 75gr AMaxs. Have been thinking about doing another one again. The velocity and energy of the 22-243 with a 75gr amax was very impressive to say the least.

Having been around alot of 22-250s and 22-250 AIs.
And owning two 22 Cheetahs.

My advise would be to set up a 6.5x47 Lapua.
Chambered for 140g bullets they do very well at 1000 yards.

I just dont see any 22 calibers on the line.
Not saying they wont get you there.

Much better barrel life than high capacity 22s.

Only accurate rifles are interesting.
